ABOUT JD HAITSMA

 

Today on the Redefine Business Podcast, I have an exciting guest, JD Haitsma. JD is renowned for his expertise with Kajabi, a platform well-known for hosting online courses, email marketing, and more. JD’s journey into the world of technology and design began somewhat unexpectedly.

 

Originally, JD pursued a degree in finance and economics and spent five years working as a banker. However, his true calling emerged when his wife, Crystal, became a life coach and needed assistance with her website and email marketing. JD stepped in to help and discovered his passion for technology and web design. Gradually, he began assisting others in Crystal’s network, and the demand for his services grew. When his banking contract ended, JD decided not to renew it and instead focused fully on his burgeoning business with Kajabi.

 

Three years later, JD is widely recognized as “the Kajabi guy.” He handles everything related to Kajabi, from building websites to managing email marketing campaigns. His expertise has enabled him to grow his business significantly, while also enjoying the flexibility to travel and work from anywhere.

 

USING SEO TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS

Unlike many entrepreneurs who rely heavily on social media for business growth, JD took a different approach. As an introvert, social media wasn’t his forte. Instead, he focused on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and referrals to attract clients. SEO involves optimizing your online content so that a search engine likes to show it as a top result for searches of a certain keyword.

 

JD’s strategy involved creating a blog on his website and ensuring that his content was optimized for search engines. This approach might take longer to yield results compared to social media, but it offers long-lasting benefits. Once your content ranks well on search engines, it continues to attract traffic over time, unlike social media posts that quickly get buried.

 

JD also started a YouTube channel to complement his blog. YouTube, being the second largest search engine, offers another avenue for people to discover his expertise. By consistently creating valuable content around Kajabi, JD has established himself as an authority in this niche, leading to a steady stream of clients finding him through search engines.

 

In addition to SEO, JD leveraged the power of Google reviews. By collecting positive reviews from his clients, he enhanced his credibility and visibility on Google. These reviews sometimes appear in search results, making his listings more attractive and trustworthy compared to competitors without reviews.

 

SEO TIPS

JD shared several valuable SEO tips during our conversation:

 

  • Consistent Blogging: Regularly publishing blog posts on topics related to your niche helps improve your website’s visibility on search engines. Blogging is one of the best ways to build a presence on Google.
  • Keyword Research: Start with keyword research to identify terms that potential clients are searching for. Use tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Moz to find keywords with a good balance of search volume and difficulty. Targeting lower difficulty keywords can help you rank faster.
  • Quality Content: Focus on creating high-quality, informative content that addresses the needs and questions of your target audience. This not only helps with SEO but also builds trust with your readers.
  • Google Reviews: Encourage your clients to leave positive reviews on Google. These reviews enhance your credibility and can significantly impact your search rankings.
  • Domain Authority: Over time, as you consistently publish valuable content and earn backlinks from other reputable sites, your domain authority will increase. This makes it easier for your content to rank higher in search results.
  • Patience and Consistency: SEO is a long-term strategy. It takes time to see results, but the effort is worth it. Be patient and consistent with your efforts.

JD’s approach to building his business through SEO is a testament to the fact that there are multiple paths to success. By leveraging his strengths and preferences, JD created a thriving business that aligns with his personality and goals.
