How to Get Your Business to Show Up on ChatGPT

The way people search is changing—fast.

Not too long ago, if you wanted to find a local restaurant, a plumber, or even a business coach, you’d type a few words into Google and scroll through the results. But now? Millions of people are turning to AI tools like ChatGPT to ask questions and get instant, conversational answers.

Instead of Googling “best business coach for small businesses”, people are literally asking ChatGPT, “Can you recommend a business coach who helps entrepreneurs build systems and automations?”

If you’re a business owner, this shift opens a massive opportunity: how do you make sure ChatGPT mentions you when people are looking for products or services like yours?

The good news is, you don’t have to be a tech genius to position your business for AI discovery. You just need a strategy that blends online visibility, content creation, and credibility. Let’s break it down step by step.

Step 1: Build a Strong Online Presence (So AI Can Actually Find You)

Here’s the first thing to understand: ChatGPT doesn’t magically know everything. It pulls its answers from information already available online—your website, your LinkedIn profile, articles, interviews, and business directories.

If your online presence is weak, ChatGPT won’t have much to pull from.

So, your first move is making sure you show up loud and clear online.

  • Optimize your website. Make sure your site says exactly what you do in simple, searchable terms. Instead of just “Helping entrepreneurs succeed,” be specific: “I’m a business coach specializing in sales funnels, systems, and automations.”
  • Use keywords naturally. Think about what someone would actually ask ChatGPT: “business coach for funnels,” “help with automating my small business,” or “systems coach for entrepreneurs.” Sprinkle these phrases into your site, blogs, and about page.
  • Add schema markup. This is a bit techy, but adding structured data to your site helps AI and search engines understand who you are and what you do. (Your web person can set this up in an afternoon.)

The clearer your digital footprint, the easier it is for AI to connect the dots.

Step 2: Be Where AI Looks (LinkedIn, Directories, and More)

ChatGPT loves pulling information from authoritative, public sources. That means if you want to show up in its answers, you need to plant your business in the right places.

  • LinkedIn. This is a big one. Update your profile with your specialty keywords (automation, funnels, systems, coaching). Publish posts and even articles there.
  • Google Business Profile. Even if you coach virtually, claim and optimize your profile. This shows credibility and makes you easier to reference.
  • Directories. Add yourself to business coach directories, entrepreneur networks, or even niche-specific lists. These often get scraped for data.
  • Podcasts & guest features. When you’re interviewed or featured, AI takes note of that content, especially if it’s on well-ranked sites.

The more places your name appears alongside your specialty, the more “authority points” you earn in AI’s invisible rolodex.

Step 3: Create Content That Feeds AI

Here’s a little secret: AI loves Q&A content.

Why? Because that’s exactly how people are talking to it.

When someone types: “How do I know if I need a business coach?” or “What’s the best way to automate a sales funnel?”, AI looks for articles and blog posts that answer those questions directly.

That’s where you come in.

  • Write blog posts with titles that mirror what people ask.
    • “How to Automate Your Sales Funnel (And Why It Matters for Small Business Owners)”
  • “Do You Really Need a Business Coach? 5 Signs It’s Time.”
  • Create an FAQ page on your website with common client questions.
  • Share case studies and stories with keyword-rich language like “I helped this entrepreneur automate their business systems and scale.”

The more “chat-friendly” your content, the more likely AI is to surface it in answers.

Step 4: Build Backlinks and Mentions

AI doesn’t just trust what you say about yourself—it trusts what other people say about you.

That means brand mentions and backlinks are like gold.

  • Guest blog on relevant sites.
  • Collaborate with entrepreneurs who can link back to you.
  • Get featured in articles, podcasts, or press releases.

If your name and business keep popping up across the web, ChatGPT is more likely to consider you a credible source.

Think of it like word-of-mouth referrals, but for AI.

Step 5: Explore AI Integrations (Your Own GPT)

Here’s where things get really exciting. OpenAI (the company behind ChatGPT) now lets businesses create custom GPTs.

That means you could literally build your own AI assistant called something like:
👉 “Ask Brittni: Funnels + Systems Coach”

Inside this custom GPT, people could interact with your expertise directly, almost like a free “mini coaching session” that leads them back to your paid offers.

And because these GPTs are discoverable inside the ChatGPT app, it’s another way to put your business in front of people who are actively searching.

Step 6: Play the Long Game (Consistency Wins)

Here’s the truth: you probably won’t show up in ChatGPT overnight. Just like SEO, this is a long game. But if you consistently:

  • Publish relevant content,
  • Strengthen your online presence,
  • Build credibility through mentions and backlinks…

…you’ll start to see AI tools recognizing your name as an authority in your niche.

Think of it like planting seeds. Every blog post, interview, or profile update is another seed. Over time, those seeds grow into visibility, and visibility turns into clients.

The Bottom Line

People are already using ChatGPT to find coaches, consultants, products, and services. The businesses that start optimizing for AI now will have a huge advantage in the next few years.

So don’t wait for the future to “figure it out.” Get ahead of the curve:

  • Polish your online presence.
  • Publish Q&A style content.
  • Plant your name in all the right places.
  • Explore custom GPTs as a lead generation tool.

Because when someone asks ChatGPT, “Who’s the best business coach for entrepreneurs who want systems and funnels?”, the answer should be obvious.

It should be you.
