REDEFINE PODCAST
My Daily And Weekly Routine
I’m fascinated by people. I’m intrigued by their habits, routines, traditions, and rituals. In particular, I’m curious about successful people. Have you ever wondered what someone’s day looks like? Take Elon Musk, for example. Is he an early bird or a night owl? Does he watch TV, or does he read books? Does he eat at home, or does he goes through the drive-thru?
Maybe it’s just me? I’m a curious being. If you’ve met me in person, you know that I’m a very inquisitive person. I ask A LOT of questions.
With all that being said, maybe some of my listeners share this same curiousity and I thought it would be fun to walk you through my daily and weekly routines. I’ve deemed myself the “Time Management Ninja,” so maybe you can find some helpful hints to help you increase your productivity.
My Daily and Weekly Routine
Let’s start with Monday morning.
I get up most days between 5:30-6:00 a.m. Most weeks, I work out 5 out of the 7 days. I have a friend I run 3 miles with on Mondays. I call this my Monday morning therapy. There’s something about spending time in the dark that gets you talking. On other days, I work out at my clubhouse. This is the time I listen to podcasts or books. The topic depends on my my mood, but for the most part, I love business and self-help books. I’m super exciting. 😉
I get back home just in time to tell my 18-year-old son goodbye as he heads to school. I jump in the shower and get ready for the day. My 14-year-old daughter stumbles downstairs, and I try to bite my tongue and not say anything about what she’s wearing to school. The struggle is real.
I drive my daughter to school, get back home around 8:45 a.m., and get to work. I plan my days the night before so I can get right to work. When I plan my days, I give myself 3 main goals and then create a to-do list. My main goals are the most important things that move the needle in my business the most.
Monday is my “Content Creation” day. I dedicate one hour on Monday to create content for my Instagram. I post 4 times a week, Monday-Thursday.
I’m a time blocker. I set my watch for 1 hour, and when my alarm goes off, I stop what I’m doing. Sometimes I’ve created all my content and scheduled it, and sometimes I didn’t get everything created. If that’s the case, I schedule some time to create content on another day.
Once I finish that hour, I move on to the next goal on my list. It depends on what I’m working on, but these goals could be record a podcast, create a content for my membership or a course I’m working on, spend time preparing a training, work on some of my 1:1 clients’ projects, etc. If the goal is a big project that takes hours, I time block and set my timer for an hour.
When I’m finished with my 3 main goals, I move on to my to-do List. My to-do list has items that are important to my business, but not AS important. Typical things on my to-do list on a Monday might be: check in with clients, engage on social media for 30 minutes, schedule reminder emails for the quarter, journal, give client feedback, reach out to 5 collabs, spend 30 minutes learning a new program, etc.
In between the goals and tasks, I have client calls or podcast interviews. I try to only schedule those 2-3 days a week. I’ve learned I’m way more productive when I have consecutive hours.
My son, a senior, gets home from school around 1 p.m. I usually take a break, and we talk about the day for about 30-45 minutes. He usually then does his own thing, and I spend a couple more hours trying to tie up anything that needs to be done before my daughter gets home. Once both my kids are home from school, I try really hard to disconnect and give them all my attention. This is something I’m continually working on.
The hustle and bustle of mom life keeps me busy. I try to get to bed around 10 p.m., but often it’s later than that. (Remember the days of getting 8 hours of sleep? I miss those days.) Before I go to bed, I get my planner out and schedule my days. I look at my appointments and put them in the appropriate time slots, and then I write out my 3 main goals and to-do list. Planning your day the night before is such a game changer. You get right to work.
Monday-Thursday, I work on and in my coaching business. I designate Friday as the day that I try to work on my nonprofit, go to lunch with friends, or just do something for myself. If I do work on Friday in my coaching business, it’s typically only for an hour or so.
I TRY to disconnect on the weekends, and for the most part, I do a pretty good job. When Monday comes around, I’m excited and motivated to get to work. I’ve cleared my head, and I feel refreshed and ready to go.
I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 15 years, and in that time, I’ve learned lots of tips and tricks on being productive. Of course, automations and systems are essential, but I’ve also learned the importance of having routines and schedules. I’ve also learned to eliminate things that don’t help me progress. I’m very protective of my time and schedule and know things like social media, phone calls from friends, and emails can be huge distractions. I give myself boundaries for the things that distract me and have learned to stick to those boundaries. I’ve always been a planner, but combining planning with strategy is what will take your business to the next level.
Set goals and get a plan on how you’re going to achieve those goals. Schedule specific tasks on your calendar that will help you achieve those goals. Then you want to rinse and repeat until it becomes habit.
