USING A QUIZ AS A LEAD MAGNET

USING A QUIZ AS A LEAD MAGNET

Today, I’m thrilled to introduce Jackie from Interact Quizmaker. She’s here to share her expertise on how quizzes can revolutionize your lead generation and audience engagement strategies.

Meet Jackie Aguglia from Interact Quizmaker

Jackie joined Interact Quizmaker about three years ago and has been a key player in developing their AI-driven quiz creation tool. Initially, she led group coaching sessions, guiding participants through a five-week process to create quizzes. However, with the advent of Interact AI, that timeline has been drastically reduced. Now, you can create a fully customized quiz in just two minutes by simply inputting your website link or any relevant copy.

The Evolution of Quiz Creation

Creating quizzes used to be a lengthy process, but with Interact AI, it’s become incredibly efficient. Built on the ChatGPT platform, this tool can craft quizzes in your brand voice, allowing you to engage your audience more effectively. Whether you have a specific quiz in mind or need help brainstorming, Interact AI has got you covered.

Why Quizzes Make Excellent Lead Magnets

Quizzes are fantastic lead magnets for several reasons:

  1. Self-Discovery: People love learning more about themselves. Quizzes provide personalized results based on their responses, making the experience highly engaging.
  1. Interactivity: Quizzes are interactive and can segment your leads based on their answers. This allows you to tailor your marketing efforts to different audience segments.
  1. High Conversion Rates: Interact quizzes boast an average conversion rate of 40%, significantly higher than standard opt-in forms, which hover around 1-2%.

Segmenting Your Audience with Quizzes

One of the key benefits of quizzes is the ability to segment your audience. As a business owner, you know the importance of speaking to your audience at different stages of their journey. Quizzes allow you to identify where they are and tailor your messaging accordingly.

For example, in my business membership, I teach entrepreneurs about automations and systems. By using quizzes, I can identify whether someone is a tech beginner, intermediate, or advanced. This allows me to nurture each segment with customized content that addresses their specific pain points and needs.

Using Quizzes for Market Research

Quizzes are also an excellent tool for market research. By analyzing quiz responses, you can gain valuable insights into what your audience is looking for and create offerings that meet those needs. Jackie shared a story about a client who discovered a new revenue stream simply by identifying a common request from her quiz respondents.

Practical Tips for Creating Effective Quizzes

To get started with creating a quiz, think about the number one question your audience always asks you. This question can become the foundation of your quiz, ensuring it resonates with your target audience. Use language that mirrors how your customers speak and what they’re searching for online to increase conversion rates.

DEPENDABILITY IN BUSINESS AND LIFE

DEPENDABILITY IN BUSINESS AND LIFE

The Life Lesson of Dependability

The other day, I found myself in a discussion/argument with my teenage daughter. I had asked her to do something, and she didn’t do it. Frustrated, I launched into one of my many life lesson lectures, this time on the importance of being dependable. She listened, nodding in agreement, but then rolled her eyes and walked off—just another day in the life of a mom with a teenage daughter, right?

Ironically, it wasn’t two days later that she experienced the other side of this lesson. She had made plans with a friend who, at the last minute, blew her off. My daughter was disappointed and frustrated. Although she didn’t want to hear it, it was the perfect moment to reiterate the importance of dependability.

The Fascination with Confidence and Dependability

One of my lifelong obsessions has been confidence—why some people have it in abundance while others don’t. Confidence is incredibly attractive and essential in both business and life. Over the years, I’ve studied confidence extensively, and a key trait that confident people consistently exhibit is dependability.

Confidence is about believing in yourself, saying you’ll do something, and then doing it. Dependability means being reliable, trustworthy, and consistent in your actions and commitments. In a world full of uncertainty, dependability provides stability, which is crucial for both personal and professional success.

Building Trust and a Positive Reputation

Dependability builds trust because people know they can count on you to follow through. When you consistently meet deadlines, deliver quality work, and keep your promises, you establish yourself as someone reliable. This positive reputation is vital in the professional world, where it can impact your career progression and opportunities. Clients and colleagues are more likely to recommend and collaborate with someone they know they can rely on.

I recently hosted an online summit with nine other female entrepreneurs, and I learned a significant lesson about the importance of dependability. Some of the speakers didn’t follow through on the marketing aspect of the event, which affected the overall success. As a result, I’ve decided not to collaborate with those speakers again because they’ve proven to be undependable. This experience made me reflect on my own business practices, reinforcing my commitment to being someone others can rely on.

Dependability in Teams and Client Relationships

If you have a team in your business, dependability is key. Teams thrive on it. When team members know they can rely on each other, collaborations become more effective and efficient. Dependable team members contribute to a positive working environment, where trust and respect are prevalent, leading to better communication, reduced conflicts, and a higher likelihood of achieving goals.

Dependability also directly correlates with client satisfaction. When clients know they can rely on a business to deliver as promised, their trust and loyalty increase. This leads to repeat business, positive reviews, and word-of-mouth referrals. Think about your experiences as a consumer—when you trust a business to deliver consistently, you’re more likely to return and recommend them to others.

Personal Relationships and Integrity

In personal relationships, dependability means being there for your loved ones, keeping your commitments, and consistently showing up when needed. This reliability strengthens bonds and builds deeper, more meaningful connections. As I’ve grown older, my circle of friends has become smaller, but those who remain are the ones I can truly depend on.

Dependability is a key component of personal integrity. When you say you’ll do something, you do it. Consistently following through on your commitments demonstrates honesty and integrity, earning you respect and trust from others. It also enhances your overall character, as people know they can count on you.

Reducing Stress and Achieving Goals

Dependability can significantly reduce stress. Knowing that you can rely on yourself and others creates a sense of order and predictability in your life. This reliability helps manage expectations and reduces anxiety. Surrounding yourself with dependable people provides a support system that makes your life easier and less stressful.

Dependability is also closely linked to self-discipline and self-confidence, both crucial for achieving personal goals. Whether you’re advancing your career, pursuing a hobby, or improving your health, being reliable in your efforts and commitments increases your chances of success. Setting goals, creating plans, and consistently following through on them are all aspects of dependability that contribute to personal achievement.

Cultivating Dependability

How do we cultivate dependability? It starts with self-awareness. Understand your strengths and weaknesses. I’m dependable, but I tend to overcommit, which creates more stress for myself. If you recognize that you’re not dependable, set realistic expectations for yourself. Start small—commit to exercising, making your bed, or practicing a hobby a few days a week, and follow through. This will help you develop a habit of dependability and boost your overall confidence.

Effective time management is crucial for dependability. Prioritize tasks, set deadlines, and avoid overcommitting. Use tools like calendars, to-do lists, and reminders to stay organized and meet your commitments. Consistency is key—establish routines and habits that support your commitments, whether it’s showing up on time, meeting deadlines, or regularly communicating with others.

Communication is another essential aspect. Keeping others informed builds trust and shows that you respect their time and expectations. My virtual assistant is an excellent example of this—she’s not only dependable but also a great communicator, which has created a positive work environment between us.

Hold yourself accountable for your actions. Reflect on your performance, acknowledge mistakes, and learn from them. Accepting responsibility demonstrates your commitment to being dependable and fosters personal growth.

Conclusion

In both business and life, dependability is a cornerstone for success. It builds trust, enhances your brand reputation, fosters teamwork, increases productivity, and ensures satisfied customers. In your personal life, it strengthens relationships, upholds integrity, reduces stress, and helps you achieve your goals.

Cultivating dependability requires self-awareness, effective time management, consistency, great communication, and accountability. By prioritizing these aspects, you can become someone others can always count on, paving the way for more success in your business and life.

I hope you found this discussion helpful. Dependability is something I’m passionate about and constantly teaching my kids. Implement these tips and tools in your life to become a more dependable person.

SARA DOES SEO WITH SARA DUNN

Sara Does SEO With Sara Dunn

This week I had the pleasure of welcoming Sara Dunn from Sara Does SEO to our show.

Sara’s journey into SEO started back in 2012. She initially launched a business offering general digital marketing services. She made websites, handled Facebook ads, and even did graphic design and branding. It was a bit of everything! A turning point came when a client assumed the new website she was designing would improve their Google search rankings. Sara realized she needed to learn SEO quickly. Over the years, Sara taught myself SEO, and by 2017, after successfully helping a wedding planner client recover her Google rankings, she decided to specialize exclusively in SEO for the wedding industry. Now, that’s what she and her team do every day.

Sara’s journey is a testament to the power of specializing in what you love. She transitioned from a jack-of-all-trades approach to becoming a master in the SEO niche, particularly within the wedding industry.

What is SEO?

For those who might not be familiar, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Essentially, it involves making tweaks and improvements to your website to help it rank higher in search engine results. When people search for something on Google, SEO is what determines which websites appear first.

SEO is about aligning your website with what potential clients are searching for. It’s about meeting their needs and solving their problems. While it’s a slower process compared to the instant gratification of social media, it’s incredibly rewarding. SEO doesn’t give you the immediate feedback that social media does, but it’s worth the patience and effort. Think of it as a long-term investment in your online presence.

COMMON MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WITH SEO

SEO can be complex, and many people make mistakes along the way. Sara shares some common pitfalls:

  1. Ignoring Location-Based Keywords: Many businesses forget to include location-specific keywords. If you’re a local business, like a photographer or wedding planner, it’s crucial to use location-based terms in your content.
  1. Not Understanding the Basics: SEO can seem overwhelming, but understanding the fundamentals is key. Sometimes people use overly fancy titles or keywords that their audience isn’t actually searching for.
  1. Inconsistent Blogging: Blogging is a powerful tool for SEO, but it’s not about quantity. Even if you blog infrequently, make sure your content is valuable and includes relevant keywords.
  1. Over-Reliance on Social Media: While social media is important, it’s also essential to have a searchable platform like a blog or website. Relying solely on social media can limit your visibility in search engines.

Sara’s insights highlight the importance of a strategic approach to SEO. It’s not just about creating content but creating the right content that aligns with what your potential clients are searching for.

REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS FOR SEO

One of the biggest challenges with SEO is managing expectations. Unlike social media, where you can see immediate likes and comments, SEO is a long game.

SEO requires patience. You might not see results for a few months, but the payoff is worth it. When you rank high in search results, you’re essentially doing marketing that your client is asking for. They’re searching for a solution, and you’re presenting your business as that solution.

Sara also emphasizes the importance of strategic content creation. Think about the questions your potential clients ask before they hire you. Create blog posts that address those questions. This not only helps with SEO but also positions you as an expert in your field.

THE POWER OF BLOGGING FOR SEO

Blogging plays a significant role in boosting your SEO. It allows you to create content that targets specific keywords and topics that your audience is interested in.

Blogging helps you rank for more keywords and show up in more searches, Sara explains. Every blog post is an opportunity to get found for different queries. It’s also a way to establish yourself as an authority in your field.

Sara advises against feeling pressured to blog consistently. It’s okay to blog whenever you feel inspired. Each blog post contributes positively to your traffic and keyword rankings.

WORKING WITH SARA

For those interested in diving deeper into SEO, Sara offers various ways to work with her. She hosts a free monthly SEO Lunch and Learn, where she shares actionable SEO tips and answers questions. For wedding industry professionals, they offer a course called Wedding SEO Boot Camp and a done-for-you service called The SEO Fix. You can find all the details on her website.

HOW AUTOMATED POST-PURCHASE FUNNELS TRANSFORM THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

How Automated Post-Purchase Funnels Transform the Customer Experience

In today’s competitive market, businesses must focus not only on getting new customers but also on retaining them and ensuring customer satisfaction. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is through automated post-purchase funnels. These funnels help streamline the customer journey after a purchase, creating loyalty, encouraging repeat purchases, and ultimately driving growth. In this podcast, we’ll discuss how automated post-purchase funnels transform the customer experience and drive growth.

Understanding Automated Post-Purchase Funnels

An automated post-purchase funnel is a series of automated actions and communications triggered after a customer makes a purchase. Poor or little communication after a purchase can be problematic and be the cause of a negative client experience. The goal is to nurture the customer relationship, educate, enhance their experience, and guide them toward further engagement with the brand. These funnels can include a variety of touchpoints, such as emails, SMS, social media interactions, and personalized offers.

Benefits of Automated Post-Purchase Funnels

  1. Enhanced Customer Experience:

    • Automated post-purchase funnels ensure customers feel valued and supported after their purchase. Timely follow-ups, personalized recommendations, and proactive customer service contribute to a positive experience, increasing the likelihood of repeat business.
  2. Increased Customer Retention:

    • By maintaining regular contact and providing relevant content, businesses can keep their brand top-of-mind. Engaged customers are more likely to return for future purchases, leading to higher retention rates.
  3. Boosted Lifetime Value:

    • Satisfied customers tend to spend more over time. Automated funnels can upsell and cross-sell products, recommend products or services, and offer exclusive deals, thereby increasing the average customer lifetime value (CLV).
  4. Additional Time in Your Day:

    • Automation reduces the need for manual actions, freeing up resources and time that can be used for other areas in your business. This efficiency allows businesses to scale their operations without compromising on quality.
  5. Actionable Insights:

    • Automated funnels provide valuable data on customer behavior and preferences. Analyzing this data helps businesses refine their marketing strategies, optimize their product offerings, and tailor their communications to better meet customer needs.

Key Components of an Effective Post-Purchase Funnel

Every business’s post-purchase funnel is going to look a little bit different, depending on the service or product. These components are suggestions, but aren’t always required. When building your post-purchase funnels, be mindful to not overwhelm your clients. If you have an actionable task for them to complete, consider breaking the information up into several different emails. If possible, limit your emails to one call to action (CTA) per email.

  1. Order Confirmation and Thank-You Messages:

    • Immediately after a purchase, send an order confirmation email or message. This should include details of the purchase, expected deliverables, and a thank-you note. This reassures the client that their order was completed and sets the tone for a positive
      post-purchase experience.
  2. Intake and/or Contract:

    • Depending on the workflow of your business, the next email could include an intake form requesting detailed information. If a contract is required and wasn’t signed pre-purchase, this communication could include a contract.
  3. Educate and Instruction

    • This portion of the funnel is an opportunity to educate or give your clients instruction. For example, if you’re a photographer, you could educate your clients on what to wear or how to plan for a photoshoot. If you’re a coach, this is a good time to let them know how to schedule coaching calls and how the program will proceed.
  4. Tips and Guides:

    • Help clients get the most out of their purchase by providing tips, how-to guides, or instructional videos. This not only enhances their experience, but it also reduces the likelihood of clients feeling disappointed with the value.
  5. Follow-Up and Feedback Requests:

    • After the service has been completed, follow up to ensure the customer is satisfied with their purchase. Encourage them to leave a review or provide feedback. Positive reviews can be showcased to attract new clients, while constructive feedback helps improve products and services.
  6. Upsell:

    • Use the client’s purchase history to suggest related or complementary products. Personalized recommendations make customers feel understood and increase the chances of additional sales.
  7. Loyalty Programs and Exclusive Offers:
    • Reward loyal customers with exclusive offers, discounts, or access to a loyalty program. These incentives encourage repeat purchases and foster long-term loyalty.
  8. Regular Engagement:
    • Maintain ongoing communication through newsletters, blog updates, or social media interactions. Share relevant content, upcoming product launches, or special events to keep customers engaged and connected with the brand.

Strategies for Implementing Automated Post-Purchase Funnels

Oftentimes the technology and implementation is a major obstacle for businesses.  Investing time or money into implementing funnels will have a huge return on investment and will have a long-term payoff. Here are few strategies to implement:

  1. Segment Your Audience:
    • Different customers have different needs and preferences. Segment your audience based on factors such as purchase history, demographics, and engagement levels to tailor your post-purchase communications effectively.
  2. Leverage Technology:
    • Utilize marketing automation platforms to set up and manage your post-purchase funnels. Tools like Kajabi, Flodesk, and Zapier offer features for creating automated workflows, tracking customer interactions, and analyzing performance.
  3. Personalize Communications:
    • Personalization is key to a successful post-purchase strategy. Use customer data to personalize emails, messages, and offers. Address customers by their names, and reference their specific purchases to create a more engaging experience.
  4. Test and Optimize:
    • Continuously test different elements of your post-purchase funnels, such as email subject lines, messaging, and timing. Analyze the results, and optimize your approach based on what works best for your audience.
  5. Focus on Customer Feedback:
    • Actively seek customer feedback and use it to improve your products, services, and post-purchase processes. Showing that you value customer input can enhance loyalty and trust.
  6. Integrate With CRM Systems:
    • Integrate your post-purchase automation with your customer relationship management (CRM) system. This ensures a seamless flow of information and allows for more personalized and effective communications.

Automated post-purchase funnels are a powerful tool for enhancing customer experience, increasing retention, and driving growth. By strategically implementing these funnels, businesses can nurture their customer relationships, boost lifetime value, and gain a competitive edge in the market. The key lies in understanding your customers, leveraging technology, and continuously refining your approach based on data and feedback. Incorporate these practices into your business operations, and watch as your customer loyalty and revenue soar to new heights.

TRAVELING FOR FREE USING POINTS AND MILES WITH ERIN BRINTON

TRAVEL FOR FREE USING POINTS AND MILES

Welcome to another episode of the Redefine Business Podcast! Today, I’m thrilled to have Erin Brinton, an Esthetician and seasoned traveler, joining us. Traveling for free is a subject I’m super passionate about, and Erin is here to share her insights on how to travel the world affordably using points and miles.

HOW TO START TRAVELING FOR FREE

Erin, an Esthetician by trade, began traveling using points and miles to make frequent travel affordable for her family. Unlike the occasional trip, Erin aims to travel every six to eight weeks, necessitating a cost-effective strategy. Over the past decade, she has honed her skills, turning it into a passion she loves to share with others.

Traveling using points and miles might sound complex, but it essentially involves using points and miles accumulated through various credit cards and loyalty programs to travel for free or at a significantly reduced cost. Erin’s journey started with co-branded cards like Delta and Marriott, but she quickly realized that to truly maximize her travel, she needed a more diverse arsenal of credit cards.

HOW DOES EARNING POINTS AND MILES WORK?

To get the biggest bang for your buck, you need to understand the difference between using co-branded cards (like those specific to an airline or hotel chain) and using more flexible bank credit cards (like American Express, Chase, Capital One, and Citibank) that offer transferable points. With transferable points, you can choose from a variety of airline and hotel loyalty programs, giving you more flexibility and opportunities to find the best deals.

Erin emphasizes that the key to amassing millions of points lies in the sign-up bonuses offered by credit cards. These bonuses, awarded when you meet a minimum spend within a few months, can significantly boost your points balance. Rather than using the same credit card for years, Erin frequently opens new cards, meets the minimum spend, and then moves on to the next card, effectively “sock drawering” the previous ones.

For instance, a Delta credit card might only allow you to fly Delta, but a card with transferable points can let you choose from multiple airlines. This flexibility opens up a world of possibilities for booking international business class flights or luxurious hotel stays.

WHERE PEOPLE GO WRONG

Many people fail to maximize their travel rewards because they book through the credit card’s travel portal, which often provides a lower value for points. Instead, Erin advises transferring points directly to airline or hotel loyalty programs. For example, 100,000 Chase points might be worth about $1,200 when booked through the portal, but if transferred to an airline or hotel partner, those same points could be worth around $7,000.

Another common mistake is sticking with one credit card for years, expecting to accumulate enough points for significant travel. Without taking advantage of sign-up bonuses and multiple credit cards, it’s challenging to gather enough points for extensive travel. Erin’s strategy involves continuously earning points through sign-up bonuses and smart spending, ensuring she always has a healthy points balance to draw from when planning trips.

Additionally, people often worry that opening multiple credit cards will harm their credit score or lead to debt. However, Erin maintains an excellent credit score by only spending what she can afford and paying off her balances in full each month. By using credit cards responsibly and strategically, it’s possible to reap the benefits of earning points and miles without falling into debt.

WHAT ERIN HAS BOOKED WITH POINTS

One of Erin’s standout trips was a two-week journey through Europe, which she booked almost entirely with points and miles. Here’s a breakdown of her itinerary and how she utilized her amazing skills:

  1. Flights

  •    Salt Lake City to JFK: Flew on points.
  •    JFK to Berlin: Flew Delta One for just 50,000 points per person (a value of around $3,500 per ticket) through Virgin Atlantic, paying only $16 per person in taxes and fees.
  1. Accommodation:
  •    Berlin: Two nights at the Berlin Marriott using free night certificates from a Marriott credit card.
  •    Prague: Stayed at the Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel using points, upgraded to a suite, and also used a Fine Hotels & Resorts credit for an additional night.
  •    Venice: Stayed at a Radisson hotel entirely on points.
  •    Zurich: Three nights at the Park Hyatt Zurich using points, booking through a friend’s globalist status to get free breakfast.
  •    Amsterdam: One night at a hotel on points before flying home.
  1. Return Flight:
  •   Amsterdam to Salt Lake City: Flew KLM business class for 58,000 points per person, paying $200 each in taxes and fees.

Overall, Erin spent around $950 out of pocket for a trip that would have cost $38,000 if paid in cash. This incredible value showcases the potential to create unforgettable travel experiences without breaking the bank.

CONCLUSION

Traveling for free using points and miles can seem daunting at first, but with the right strategies and knowledge, it opens up a world of affordable travel possibilities. Erin’s experiences demonstrate that by using the right credit cards, understanding airline alliances, and maximizing sign-up bonuses, you can enjoy luxurious travel experiences for a fraction of the cost.

WHEN TO WORK FOR FREE OR AT A DISCOUNT AS A BUSINESS OWNER

WHEN TO WORK FOR FREE OR AT A DISCOUNT AS A BUSINESS OWNER

As a business owner, the decision of whether to work for free or offer discounted services can be a complex one. On one hand, providing services at a reduced rate or pro bono can help build relationships, showcase expertise, and open doors to new opportunities. On the other hand, it’s essential to ensure that your time and expertise are valued appropriately to sustain your business and make money. In this podcast, I’ll discuss the factors to consider when deciding when to work for free or at a discount and how to strike the right balance.

Understanding the Value Exchange

Before diving into when to work for free or at a discount, it’s crucial to understand the concept of value exchange. Every business transaction involves an exchange of value between the provider and the recipient. While making money is awesome,  there are other intangible benefits to consider, such as exposure, networking opportunities, and giving back to your community.

When to Work for Free

  • Building Relationships: Working for free can be an effective strategy for building relationships with potential clients or partners. By offering your services as a gesture of goodwill, you can show your expertise, build trust, and establish a solid relationship with individuals or organizations that may lead to future paid opportunities.

  • Showcasing Expertise: Sometimes, the opportunity to showcase your expertise and skills outweighs the immediate financial gain. Offering free services to high-profile clients or for important projects can serve as a powerful marketing tool, positioning you as an expert in your field and attracting attention from potential clients or collaborators.

  • Supporting a Cause: Working for free can also be a way to contribute to causes or organizations that align with your values and mission. Pro bono work for nonprofit organizations, community initiatives, or charitable events allows you to make a positive impact while leveraging your skills and resources for the greater good.

With every business I’ve started, I’ve understood there’s a brand-building phase. I’ve said this many times that it doesn’t matter how amazing your product is, if you don’t have effective marketing, you’ll struggle.

When I started my first real business, my photography business, I’d recently moved to a new city. I did my market research, identified my ideal clients, and started growing my network. I shot for free for almost 8 months, but during this time, I was building relationships, showing my expertise, networking, and donating to local events. Just as I was beginning to get frustrated, my business exploded in the best way.

When to Offer Discounts

  • Attracting New Clients: Offering discounts can be an effective strategy for attracting new clients, especially in a competitive market. Providing introductory offers or limited-time promotions can incentivize prospective clients to try your services and experience the value you provide, potentially leading to long-term relationships and repeat business.

When I have clients who are new in business and are trying to attract clients, I often recommend pricing themselves higher for what they want to charge and then offering a discount. This ensures that the new client understands what the investment is to work with you, so when they refer you, they don’t tell their network a lower investment, thus attracting clients who aren’t willing to invest.

  • Fostering Loyalty: Discounts can also be used as a tool for fostering loyalty and rewarding existing clients or customers. Offering special discounts or loyalty rewards to repeat customers not only encourages repeat business but also strengthens the relationship and encourages referrals.

  • Fill in Slow Periods: During slow periods or off-peak seasons, offering discounts can help stimulate demand and fill in gaps in your schedule. By strategically discounting your services during these times, you can maintain cash flow, keep your team engaged, and maximize utilization of resources.

Striking the Right Balance

While working for free or offering discounts can bring benefits, it’s essential to strike the right balance to ensure that your business remains sustainable and profitable in the long run.

Here are some tips for finding that balance:

  • Set Clear Boundaries: Define clear criteria for when you’re willing to work for free or offer discounts. Consider factors such as the potential for future paid work. Remember: When you say yes to one thing, you’re saying no to another. Often, when we don’t set clear boundaries, we feel resentful.  A good example of this is when friends and family want to use your services or products. We often feel obligated to offer a discount (or even do it for free), but we may feel underappreciated or undervalued and then resentment sneaks in.  Set clear boundaries from the beginning, and you can avoid a lot of negative feelings.

  • Communicate Value: When offering discounted or free services, emphasize the value that clients or customers will receive. Clearly articulate the benefits of your services and why they’re worth investing in, even at a reduced rate. If you decide to trade, make sure you communicate and track hour for hour and that the other person understands the value they’re getting.

  • Limit Free Work: While occasional pro bono work can be beneficial, be cautious not to devalue your expertise or undermine your worth by consistently working for free. Set limits on the amount of free or discounted work you’re willing to do, and ensure that it aligns with your overall business strategy.

  • Upsell and Cross-Sell: When offering discounts, consider opportunities to upsell or cross-sell additional services or products. By bundling services or offering complimentary add-ons at full price, you can maximize the value of the transaction and offset any discounts provided.

The decision of whether to work for free or offer discounted services is one that requires careful consideration of various factors. While there are benefits to providing services at reduced rates or pro bono, it’s essential to ensure that your time and expertise are valued appropriately to sustain your business and maintain profitability. By understanding the value exchange, knowing when to work for free or offer discounts, and striking the right balance, you can leverage these strategies effectively to grow your business, build relationships, and make a positive impact in your industry.

HOW I BUILT MY BUSINESS AS AN INTROVERT WITH JD HAITSMA

ABOUT JD HAITSMA

Today on the Redefine Business Podcast, I have an exciting guest, JD Haitsma. JD is renowned for his expertise with Kajabi, a platform well-known for hosting online courses, email marketing, and more. JD’s journey into the world of technology and design began somewhat unexpectedly.

Originally, JD pursued a degree in finance and economics and spent five years working as a banker. However, his true calling emerged when his wife, Crystal, became a life coach and needed assistance with her website and email marketing. JD stepped in to help and discovered his passion for technology and web design. Gradually, he began assisting others in Crystal’s network, and the demand for his services grew. When his banking contract ended, JD decided not to renew it and instead focused fully on his burgeoning business with Kajabi.

Three years later, JD is widely recognized as “the Kajabi guy.” He handles everything related to Kajabi, from building websites to managing email marketing campaigns. His expertise has enabled him to grow his business significantly, while also enjoying the flexibility to travel and work from anywhere.

USING SEO TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS

Unlike many entrepreneurs who rely heavily on social media for business growth, JD took a different approach. As an introvert, social media wasn’t his forte. Instead, he focused on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and referrals to attract clients. SEO involves optimizing your online content so that a search engine likes to show it as a top result for searches of a certain keyword.

JD’s strategy involved creating a blog on his website and ensuring that his content was optimized for search engines. This approach might take longer to yield results compared to social media, but it offers long-lasting benefits. Once your content ranks well on search engines, it continues to attract traffic over time, unlike social media posts that quickly get buried.

JD also started a YouTube channel to complement his blog. YouTube, being the second largest search engine, offers another avenue for people to discover his expertise. By consistently creating valuable content around Kajabi, JD has established himself as an authority in this niche, leading to a steady stream of clients finding him through search engines.

In addition to SEO, JD leveraged the power of Google reviews. By collecting positive reviews from his clients, he enhanced his credibility and visibility on Google. These reviews sometimes appear in search results, making his listings more attractive and trustworthy compared to competitors without reviews.

SEO TIPS

JD shared several valuable SEO tips during our conversation:

  • Consistent Blogging: Regularly publishing blog posts on topics related to your niche helps improve your website’s visibility on search engines. Blogging is one of the best ways to build a presence on Google.
  • Keyword Research: Start with keyword research to identify terms that potential clients are searching for. Use tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Moz to find keywords with a good balance of search volume and difficulty. Targeting lower difficulty keywords can help you rank faster.
  • Quality Content: Focus on creating high-quality, informative content that addresses the needs and questions of your target audience. This not only helps with SEO but also builds trust with your readers.
  • Google Reviews: Encourage your clients to leave positive reviews on Google. These reviews enhance your credibility and can significantly impact your search rankings.
  • Domain Authority: Over time, as you consistently publish valuable content and earn backlinks from other reputable sites, your domain authority will increase. This makes it easier for your content to rank higher in search results.
  • Patience and Consistency: SEO is a long-term strategy. It takes time to see results, but the effort is worth it. Be patient and consistent with your efforts.

JD’s approach to building his business through SEO is a testament to the fact that there are multiple paths to success. By leveraging his strengths and preferences, JD created a thriving business that aligns with his personality and goals.

CRYSTAL HAITSMA THE PARENTING COACH

CRYSTAL HAITSMA THE PARENTING COACH

In this week’s episode of the Redefine Business Podcast, Brittni welcomes Crystal Haitsma, a multi-faceted entrepreneur known for her unique approach to business and parenting. Crystal’s journey from a stay-at-home mom to a renowned parenting coach is a testament to the power of intuitive business practices and the importance of aligning professional goals with personal values.

CRYSTAL’S JOURNEY INTO BUSINESS

Crystal’s entry into the business world was unconventional. Initially, she was a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom with no business aspirations. However, her quest for a master’s program in therapy led her to discover life coaching. This unexpected shift ignited her passion for coaching and subsequently, the inception of her business. Crystal plunged into learning, consuming vast amounts of entrepreneurial content, and quickly transitioned from a novice to a proficient coach.

THE SHIFT TO PARENTING COACHING

While Crystal began coaching broadly on motherhood and some business topics, she felt a persistent pull towards focusing on parenting. Her own experiences with parenting challenges, particularly with neurodiverse children, fueled this passion. Over time, as she resolved many of her parenting struggles and developed a more profound connection with her children, she embraced parenting coaching wholeheartedly. Crystal’s approach emphasizes connection and attachment, advocating for shame-free parenting over traditional coercive methods.

BUILDING A BUSINESS ON INTUITION

Crystal’s business philosophy revolves around intuitive business building, where decisions are guided by inner knowing rather than external pressures. This approach allowed her to diversify her services, offering women’s retreats, hypnotherapy, and various coaching services. For Crystal, the key to fulfillment in business lies in pursuing what feels right and energizing, rather than adhering to conventional business norms.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PERSONAL ALIGNMENT

Throughout the episode, both Brittni and Crystal stress the importance of aligning business goals with personal values. Crystal shares her decision to work fewer hours to prioritize homeschooling and spending quality time with her children. This conscious choice reflects her belief that success isn’t solely defined by financial gain but by achieving a balanced and fulfilling life.

TRUSTING YOURSELF IN BUSINESS

Crystal and Brittni discuss the common entrepreneurial pitfall of following others’ paths instead of trusting one’s intuition. Crystal’s success story underscores the value of self-trust and the courage to deviate from traditional business advice. She encourages entrepreneurs to listen to their inner voice, prioritize their well-being, and take aligned actions that resonate with their true desires.

A LIFE OF ADVENTURE AND BALANCE

Crystal’s life is a blend of adventure and balance. She shares her experience of traveling the world with her family for a school year, a long-held dream that she realized by making deliberate choices about her business priorities. This adventure, although it resulted in lower income, was immensely rewarding and reinforced her belief in a life well-lived over a life merely well-paid.

REDEFINING SUCCESS

Crystal Haitsma’s story is a powerful reminder that success in business and life is deeply personal and unique to each individual. Her emphasis on intuitive decision-making, personal alignment, and the courage to pursue what truly matters offers invaluable lessons for entrepreneurs seeking a fulfilling and balanced life. This engaging interview provides a refreshing perspective on redefining business success beyond conventional metrics.

WHEN AND HOW TO PIVOT IN YOUR BUSINESS

WHEN AND HOW TO PIVOT IN YOUR BUSINESS

I recently went to lunch with a friend. When we were trying to decide on a place, she recommended Olive Garden. I chuckled and commented that I hadn’t been to an Olive Garden in years. When we walked into the restaurant, I was immediately taken back in time. I hadn’t been to an Olive Garden in probably 10 years, and it hadn’t changed a bit.

I’ve been noticing lately that several chain restaurants that I frequented when I was younger have recently gone into bankruptcy or gone out of business. After my visit to the Olive Garden, it doesn’t surprise me that so many of these establishments are struggling.

Did you know the average lifespan of a small business is 8½ years? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 20% of small businesses fail within their first year. The failure rate increases to 30% by the end of the second year, 50% by the fifth year, and 70% by the tenth year.

Why is this?

The ability to pivot, to shift direction swiftly and strategically when circumstances demand it, isn’t just a great characteristic — it’s also essential for survival and success.

EMBRACING CHANGE

In business, change is inevitable. Market trends fluctuate, client’s needs evolve, and unexpected challenges arise. You have to be able to switch things up, fail, and constantly try new things. If you get stuck in stagnation, it’s a recipe for failure. This is where the concept of pivoting comes into play.

Pivoting involves recognizing when the current strategy or direction is no longer working and making a deliberate shift to trying something new. It requires a willingness to let go of what may have worked in the past, adapt to new information, and embrace uncertainty. Rather than viewing change as scary, successful businesses see it as an opportunity for growth and opportunity.

IMPORTANCE OF PIVOTING IN BUSINESS

Staying Relevant: Industries are always changing. This can be caused by technology, consumer behaviors, or maybe even your competition. Businesses that fail to adapt risk becoming irrelevant. Pivoting allows businesses to stay ahead of the curve, ensuring their products or services remain relevant.

Seizing Opportunities: Pivoting opens doors to new opportunities that may not have been obvious before. By being flexible and open-minded, businesses can stay on top of emerging trends, untapped markets, or innovative business models. Seizing these opportunities can lead to accelerated growth and making more money.

Adapting to Customer Needs: Customer preferences and expectations are constantly changing. Pivoting allows businesses to adapt to shifting customer needs and preferences, ensuring their products or services remain aligned with market demand. By listening to customer feedback and watching behaviors, you’ll know what the industry’s needs are. This is how you build strong relationships and customer loyalty.

STRATEGIES FOR EFFECTIVE PIVOTING

  1. Monitor Market Trends: Do your research, and understand your market. If you notice your industry is getting saturated with a certain product or service, try to discover where there are untapped needs that aren’t being met.
  2. Be Open-Minded. Be willing to try something new, even if you’re unfamiliar with it. Being a business owner is a learning experience, and if you aren’t learning every day, you aren’t trying.
  3. Seek Feedback: Actively seek feedback from customers, your team, and your colleagues. Listen attentively to their insights and suggestions. Use feedback to inform your decision-making process.
  4. Embrace Failure: Recognize that failure is an inevitable part of the innovation process. Encourage a mindset of resilience and learning from setbacks. Use failures as opportunities to iterate, refine, and pivot toward more successful outcomes.
  5. Stay True to Your Vision and Values: While pivoting may involve changes in strategy or tactics, it’s essential to stay true to your core values and long-term vision. Ensure that any pivots align with your overarching mission and strategic objectives.

In today’s unpredictable business environment, the ability to pivot is golden. By embracing change, seizing opportunities, and being willing to try new things, you’ll grow as a business owner. Whether you’re adapting to shifting market trends, customer needs, or unforeseen challenges, effective pivoting enables your business to stay relevant, seize opportunities, and thrive.

Ask yourself: Is it time to pivot?
