Word of the Year

Episode #97 Word of the Year

My Word of the Year

As the new year unfolds, many of us embark on a journey of self-reflection and goal-setting. I love the resolutions and the new beginnings. Another traditions that I have had for years is – choosing a “Word of the Year.”

You know I am a big fan of setting goals, but I understand that some people don’t like setting goals or resolutions for their own reasons. That is another reason why I love the practice of choosing a word.

This single word serves as a simple guiding force for your year. It can give you direction both in your personal and business life. Let’s delve into the impact of selecting a word that resonates with your aspirations and can be a source of inspiration throughout this next year.

The Significance of Choosing a Word

We live in a world inundated with constant distractions and ever-growing to-do lists, having a theme can give you a sense of purpose and keep you motivated. Your chosen word encapsulates your intentions for the year.

Reflecting on the Past

Before selecting your word of the year, take a moment to reflect on the past. What were the highs and lows of the previous year? What lessons did you learn, and how have they shaped you for the future? This helps you lay the  foundation for choosing a word that aligns with want you want your future self to evolve into.

Identifying Core Values

Consider the core values that define who you are and what you stand for. Whether it’s growth, resilience, creativity, or mindfulness, identify the principles that resonate most deeply with you. Your word should encapsulate these values, providing a framework for your endeavors.

Setting Intentions and Goals

Your chosen word should represent your goals and intentions for the upcoming year. Whether you want professional success, personal development, or overall well-being, the word you select becomes a mantra that reinforces your commitment to these objectives.

Finding Your Word

The process of choosing a word of the year is deeply personal. It might emerge during moments of reflection, meditation, or simply by paying attention to words that consistently resonate with you. Trust your instincts and select a word that sparks a sense of excitement and purpose.

Examples of Inspirational Words

  • Courage: Embrace challenges with bravery and resilience.
  • Serenity: Cultivate inner peace amidst life’s chaos.
  • Innovation: Foster creativity and embrace new ideas.
  • Balance: Strive for equilibrium in various aspects of life.
  • Connection: Strengthen relationships and build meaningful connections.

Every year I meticulously select a word that reflects my goals, dreams, and aspirations. Last year my word was STRENGTH and I couldn’t have selected a more fitting word for myself.

I have received many comments over the years regarding my strength. It’s no secret, I have had my fair share of trials. I am nothing special, and the truth is my outer strength isn’t always an accurate reflection of my inner strength, but I am doing the best that I can and I will keep doing the best that I can.

A couple days ago, I doodled a plethora of words that came to my mind. I took a picture and sent it to a dear friend. We contemplated our thoughts back and forth, and both agreed that the perfect word for 2024 was TRUST.

TRUST in God.

TRUST in myself.

TRUST in my heart.

TRUST in the plan.

TRUST is my word for 2024.

As you embark on this journey, remember your word is there to inspire and guide you! If you decide to choose a word, I would love to hear what you have chosen. Send me a DM or message.

Episode #95 Mastering the Art of Goal Setting

Mastering the Art of Goal Setting- A Guide for Entrepreneurs in 2024

As the calendar turns its pages to welcome a new year, entrepreneurs are gearing up to set the stage for success in 2024. Goal setting is a cornerstone of achieving success in your business. When you provide a roadmap for navigating the challenges and opportunities in your business, the odds of success are in your favor.

In this podcast, I want to explore some tried and true tactics of goal setting, from the initial planning stages to the execution phase.

Defining Clear and Purposeful Goals

Before diving into the nitty-gritty of planning, it’s crucial to establish a solid foundation for your goals. The first step is to define a clear and purposeful vision for your business. What is it that you want to achieve in 2024, and how does it align with your long-term dreams? Your goals should be a reflection of your mission, values, and overarching purpose.

Realistic Goals

Goal setting is the most compassionate, wonderful thing we can do for ourselves. Stay connected to yourself and your goals. Strive to be the best you and achieve the best. Setting goals helps us evolve into the best version of ourselves. We should constantly be asking ourselves to grow and evolve in a bigger and better way. Goals is how we do that.

You cannot achieve your goals by just thinking about them. You have to focus your thoughts. Understand that the emotion that drives your actions will determine your results. If you feel confident, you’ll pursue your goals with more determination and intensity. If you feel unsure or insecure, you’ll proceed with caution and self-doubt. Once you get your thoughts in the right place, your results will reflect that. Create goals that align with your thinking, then take action to prove it.

Make a list of your realistic goals. These are goals that you, no doubt, can achieve if you have a plan and strategy.

Big Goals

Oftentimes we hesitate to set really, really big goals. We settle because of our self-doubt, our thoughts, or our thoughts about our capabilities. These kinds of thoughts keep up from achieving BIG. We are okay with mediocrity. We self-talk and convince ourselves that we would be happy with $50K, but why don’t we dream bigger and set our goals to make $500K? Our thoughts hold us back. It’s time to let go of the good and go for the great. The bigger your goals are, the harder you’ll push yourself to greatness. Make a list of your 20 goals. Intermix your typical, relevant, realistic goals with unimaginable goals. Shoot for the stars. Will you always get the results you want? Who knows? You may or may not, but either way, your business will grow leaps and bounds.

SMART Goals

A tried-and-true method for goal setting is using the SMART criteria – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Specificity ensures clarity. You’re very specific about a goal, and it isn’t broad. For example, a specific goal is “I want to make $100K.” A nonspecific goal would be “I want to be successful.” The more specific you can be with your goals, the more likely you are to achieve them.

Measurability provides a tangible metric for success. For example, you can say you want to grow your email list by 10%. If you have 1,000 people on your email list, that means you have to gain 100 new subscribers.

Achievability sets realistic expectations. Although it’s important to set big, unimaginable goals, it’s important to intermix those goals with goals that are attainable so you can feel accomplished and keep the momentum going. Relevance aligns goals with your overall vision. You want to make sure that your goals are helping you get to where you want to go. If you’re focusing on the wrong things in your business, it may be a detour in your road of success.

Lastly, time-bound factors give you a timeline for achieving your goals. For example, if you want to get 50 five-star reviews on your podcast by Feb. 1, this creates a sense of urgency that pushes you to take action. When you are setting your goals, use the acronym SMART to ensure that you have clarity on what, how, and when.

Categorizing Your Goals

Entrepreneurs often wear multiple hats, balancing various aspects of their business. Categorizing your goals can help streamline your efforts and provide a holistic view of your business objectives. Consider dividing your goals into categories such as financial, marketing, operational, and personal development.

Planning for Success: Breaking Down Goals Into Actionable Steps

Once your goals are defined, it’s time to develop a roadmap that guides you from point A to point B. The planning phase is where you break down your overarching goals into smaller, actionable steps. This not only makes the journey more manageable but also provides a clear path forward.

One of the ways I do this is by mapping out my entire year. I place big events or launches on the designated month. I typically have something big planned quarterly. The next thing I do is make a to-do list of everything that needs to be done for those events. Some items take more time or have higher priority.

Not all tasks are created equal, and understanding their importance is key to effective planning. Prioritize tasks based on their impact and time. Sequencing your activities in a logical order ensures that each step contributes to the overall progress of your goals.

Once the list is compiled, then I schedule out the tasks or activities monthly. Once my monthly task list is complete, I assign the tasks to specific days of that month. This ensures I have plenty of time to work on the tasks that will help me with my big goals.

Pro Tip: Entrepreneurship is often unpredictable. Be prepared for the unexpected, and incorporate a backup plan into your goal-setting strategy. Identify potential roadblocks, such as holidays or life events, and give yourself enough time or alternative approaches.

Execution

Execution is where the rubber meets the road. Even the most well-thought-out plans are ineffective without action. Here are some tips for turning your plans into actions.

Accountability Partners

Share your goals with someone you trust — a mentor, a business partner, or a fellow entrepreneur. Having an accountability partner can provide the necessary support and motivation to stay on track. Regular check-ins allow for feedback and adjustments, ensuring that you remain committed to your goals.

Delegate and Collaborate

Entrepreneurs often fall into the trap of trying to do everything themselves. Recognize your strengths and weaknesses, and delegate tasks accordingly. Collaborate with team members, leveraging their skills to achieve collective success. Delegating not only lightens your workload but also fosters a sense of shared responsibility.

Continuous Learning

Entrepreneurship is a journey of constant learning and adaptation. Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and new strategies. Embrace a growth mindset that encourages continuous learning, allowing you to refine your approach and stay confident and positive.

Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Failure

No entrepreneurial journey is without its challenges. Setbacks and obstacles are inevitable, but it’s how you respond to them that defines your success. Here are some strategies for overcoming challenges.

Mindset Shift

View challenges as opportunities for growth and learning rather than complete failure. A positive mindset enables you to approach setbacks with resilience and creativity. Learn from failures, adjust your course, and move forward with newfound knowledge.

Find Support

Entrepreneurship can be a lonely road, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Seek support from mentors, industry peers, or networking groups. Shared experiences and diverse perspectives can offer valuable insights and alternative solutions to the challenges you face.

Pivot if Needed

The ability to adapt to changing circumstances is essential for the success of entrepreneurs. Be open to reassessing your goals and strategies if something isn’t working. Flexibility allows you to pivot when necessary, maintaining momentum despite unexpected challenges.

Celebrate

As you make strides toward your goals, it’s a must to celebrate your successes along the way. Acknowledge and reward both small and large achievements. Take the time to reflect on the journey, identifying lessons learned and areas for improvement.

Reflect

At least once a quarter, evaluate your progress against the initial goals you set. What worked well, and what could be improved? What are you getting a return on investment on, and what are you not? Reflecting on your journey allows for continuous improvement and strategic refinement.

Setting New Goals

Entrepreneurship is a dynamic mission, and as one set of goals is achieved, it’s time to set new ones. Building on your successes, set ambitious, big goals and realistic goals that propel your business forward. The process of setting, planning, and executing goals is what takes you from good to great!

As entrepreneurs gear up for the challenges and opportunities of 2024, mastering the art of goal setting is paramount. By defining clear and purposeful goals, developing a strategic plan, and executing, you can make 2024 a year to remember. Embracing challenges with resilience and celebrating successes along the way ensures a fulfilling and rewarding journey. As you embark on your goals in 2024, remember that each step forward brings you closer to the continued success of your business.

Creating a Cohesive Instagram Feed

91. Creating a Cohesive Instagram Feed

REDEFINE PODCAST

Creating a Cohesive Instagram Feed

CREATING A COHESIVE INSTAGRAM FEED

There are a lot of social media platforms to choose from. My platform of choice is Instagram. Instagram stands out as a visual platform. Your Instagram feed is like a digital canvas, offering a snapshot into your brand, personality, or business. A cohesive feed is not just aesthetically pleasing; it’s a powerful tool for building brand identity, engaging your audience, and leaving a lasting impression.

In this podcast, I’ll explore the art and strategy of creating a cohesive Instagram feed that tells a compelling visual story.

Understanding the Power of Visual Consistency

Your Instagram feed is a digital first impression, and as the saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” A cohesive feed is the result of a thoughtful approach to visual consistency. It’s about maintaining a recognizable brand and feel on your Instagram and across all your platforms.

Define Your Brand Aesthetic

Before you start on the journey to a cohesive feed, take a moment to define your brand aesthetic. Consider the emotions, values, and messages you want to convey. Are you aiming for a minimalist vibe, vibrant and bold colors, or a soft and dreamy atmosphere? Your aesthetic sets the tone for your entire feed.

Choose a Consistent Color Palette

Colors evoke emotions and play a crucial role in brand recognition. Select a color palette that aligns with your brand identity and stick to it. Consistency in colors creates a sense of cohesion and makes your feed instantly recognizable. Apps like Canva can help you create and manage your color scheme.

Maintain Consistent Filters and Editing Styles

Whether you’re using Instagram’s built-in editing tools or third-party apps, find a filter or editing style that complements your brand aesthetic. Consistency in editing adds a polished look to your feed. Remember, it’s not just about applying the same filter to every photo; it’s about maintaining a consistent visual tone.

Creating a Content Strategy for Cohesion

A cohesive feed is not just about visuals; it’s also about the story you’re telling. Your content strategy plays a pivotal role in ensuring that each post contributes to the overall narrative of your brand. Let’s delve into strategies that can help you create a content plan for a cohesive feed.

Establish Content Pillars/Categories

Identify key content pillars/categories that represent your brand. These categories should reflect the core values and interests of your audience. For example, if you’re a fitness influencer, your pillars might include workout routines, healthy recipes, and motivational quotes. Organizing your content around these pillars adds structure to your feed. If you are a life coach they might include inspiration, connection, humor, and life hacks.

Plan Your Grid Layout

The grid layout is the visual structure of your Instagram profile when viewed as a whole. Plan how your posts will appear in the grid, considering the balance of colors, content types, and negative space. There are tools out there like Planoly, the Meta Business Suite, or Tailwind.

Tell a Story Through Captions

While visuals are the heart of Instagram, captions are the soul. Craft compelling captions that resonate with your audience and contribute to the narrative of your feed. Whether it’s sharing personal anecdotes, asking questions, or providing valuable insights, your captions should complement the visual story you’re telling.

Establish a Posting Schedule

Consistency is key! Whether you choose to post daily, three times a week, or on specific days, stick to a schedule. Consistency in posting frequency helps manage expectations and keeps your audience engaged. Use Instagram Insights to identify the times when your followers are most active.

Mix Up Content Types

Variety is the spice of life, and the same holds true for your Instagram feed. Introduce a mix of content types – images, carousels, videos, and reels – to keep your feed dynamic and interesting. Experiment with different formats to see what resonates most with your audience.

Preview Before Posting

Before hitting that ‘Share’ button, take a moment to preview how your post will appear in your feed. Ensure that it aligns with your established aesthetic, doesn’t disrupt the flow of your grid, and contributes positively to your overall visual narrative.

Engagement and Interaction: Building a Community

A cohesive Instagram feed isn’t just about broadcasting your content; it’s also about building a community. Engage with your audience, respond to comments, and participate in conversations.

Here are some strategies to foster engagement:

Encourage User-Generated Content

Invite your followers to contribute to your feed by using a branded hashtag or participating in themed challenges. User-generated content not only diversifies your feed but also strengthens the sense of community around your brand.

Foster Meaningful Conversations

Ask questions in your captions, create polls in Stories, and encourage your followers to share their thoughts. Meaningful interactions not only boost engagement but also provide valuable insights into your audience’s preferences.

Collaborate with Others

Collaborations with other Instagram users or brands can introduce new perspectives to your feed. Whether it’s a takeover, joint Instagram Live session, or a collaborative post, these interactions can bring freshness and diversity to your content.

Analyzing and Adapting for Continuous Improvement

The digital world is constantly changing,  and what works today might need adjustment tomorrow. Regularly analyze your Instagram Insights to understand what resonates with your audience. Track engagement metrics, follower growth, and post performance to make informed decisions about your content strategy.

Monitor Key Metrics

Pay attention to metrics such as likes, comments, shares, and follower growth. Identify patterns in the type of content that performs well and use this data to refine your content strategy.

Stay Updated with Instagram Trends

Instagram is continually evolving, introducing new features and trends. Stay informed about the latest updates and trends to keep your feed fresh and aligned with the platform’s current landscape.

Seek Feedback and Market Feedback

Engage with your audience through polls or direct questions to gather feedback on your content. Use this input to iterate and refine your approach. A willingness to adapt is key to long-term success on Instagram.

Crafting a cohesive Instagram feed is a learning process. It’s about curating a visual story that reflects your brand and resonates with your audience. By understanding the importance of visual consistency, developing a content strategy, adopting strategic posting practices, fostering engagement, and continuously analyzing and adapting, you can create a captivating canvas that leaves a lasting impression.

Remember, your Instagram feed is not just a collection of images; it’s a story waiting to be told. Embrace the creative process, stay true to your brand, and let your feed become a work of art that captivates and inspires.

Happy Instagramming!

10 Ways To Repurpose Your Content

10 Ways to Repurpose Your Content

REDEFINE PODCAST

10 Ways To Repurpose Your Content

Episode #89 10 Ways to Repurpose Your Content

Creating content takes time and effort. Depending on where you post that piece of content, it could have a long lifespan or a short one. If you’re going to make the effort to create content, you might as well optimize its reach and lifespan, right? One piece of content has the power to reach the masses simply by repurposing it across a variety of platforms. It can be used in multiple ways, maximizing your marketing efforts. I am going to give you a step by step on 10 ways to repurpose your content and extend your reach.

WHERE TO START: HOW TO KEEP YOUR CONTENT ORGANIZED

First, let’s talk about keeping your content organized and easy to access. You’ve heard me talk about Airtable before, but it’s my favorite resource for keeping all my content organized. I use this platform to house all my blogs, podcasts, tutorials, affiliate links, and so much more.

Here are some of my different databases that I’ve created in Airtable:

  • Podcast: This is where I keep links to my podcasts and graphics, track where I’ve posted, and save other information. For example, I can publish an episode and post it on Instagram and several other platforms. I can view that I haven’t posted about a particular podcast for over a year, and I can decide to repurpose that great content and repost.
  • Blogs: The blog table works similar to my podcast table. I track where and when I’ve posted blogs. This ensures my content reaches all the platforms, and I can repurpose it if it’s still relevant after a certain amount of time.
  • Tutorials: Education is a huge part of my brand. Over the years, I’ve created many tutorials. Many of these tutorials are relevant and support the content I distribute. I’m constantly referencing and repurposing this content.
  • Affiliate Links: This where I list any affiliate with the accompanying links. This allows me to easily incorporate passive income into my content creation and repurposing.

HOW TO REPURPOSE CONTENT IN 10 WAYS

If you’ve never repurposed content, it might feel a little bit overwhelming at first. However, once you start with organizing your content, the repurposing will be a piece of cake. Don’t feel like you have to do all or none when you first begin. Master one platform and then add another and another.

Blog

When I first started my business, I was given the advice to write 50 blog posts. I didn’t really know what I was doing with SEO, but I got right to work with writing blog posts. As someone who has been in business for a few years now, I understand how powerful blogging can be and how it can help with your long-term growth. A blog is one piece of content that can be broken up into several pieces of content, so it’s a great place to start.

Once my blog is posted, I add the link to Airtable. I have an automation set up that sends an email to my virtual assistant to let her know a new blog is posted and she can share it on all different platforms.

PINTEREST

Another one of my favorite places to repurpose content is Pinterest. I start by creating graphics in Canva, writing an SEO-friendly Pinterest title and description using ChatGPT, and pinning it! I create about 10 different graphics for each blog post, tweaking the copy and graphics, and then schedule them to go out weekly using either Tailwind (paid) or Pinterest (free). It takes me around 30 minutes to pin each blog post.

INSTAGRAM

Instagram is my platform of choice and the one I spend the most time on. Once a blog is posted, I’ll share that I have a new post up in my stories and include the link. When it comes to creating posts for my feed, rather than sharing the entire blog post, I try breaking it into smaller pieces.

For example, I could take this post and write an entire caption about how to organize your content to repurpose. I could then write another post about how to repurpose a blog for Pinterest.

FACEBOOK PAGES/FACEBOOK GROUPS

Similar to Instagram, I can repurpose my content for my Facebook page. There are a couple of different ways you can do that. You can connect your Facebook page to your Instagram through the app, or you can manually post or schedule using a scheduling app. I like to manually schedule my content on different platforms on different days.

If you have a Facebook group, you have to manually schedule it or use a scheduling app.

SHORT-FORM VIDEO CONTENT (INSTAGRAM REEL, FACEBOOK REEL, OR TIKTOK VIDEO)

Short-form video is quickly becoming all the rage. Just like we did in previous steps, after you’ve broken your blog into bite-sized pieces, think about which portions you can turn into a 15- to 60-second Instagram Reel, Facebook Reel, or TikTok video. Is there a bullet point or quote you can share? Can you create a list or steps that encourage your audience to save and share? After you create a video, don’t forget to share it on Pinterest.

Pro Tip: Before you hit publish, save the video to your camera roll to avoid the watermarks. If you use Instagram’s audio, the audio will not save, so keep that in mind. If you want to learn more about creating Reels check out my Rock The Reels course.

EMAIL/NEWSLETTER

Do you have an email list? If not, it’s definitely time to start. Did you know email has higher conversion rates than social media and search combined? Because the conversion rate is so much higher, it’s important to take this opportunity to repurpose your content in your email marketing. Take bullet points from your blog post or social media posts and incorporate them into your email marketing.  A good word count for newsletters is 200 words, or 20 lines of text, so your email doesn’t have to be elaborate or lengthy. The goal is to drive engagement through your CTA (call to action) or clicks. So you’ll want to capture the reader’s attention and lead them to a blog or video or wherever else you want to lead them.

LINKEDIN/LINKEDIN NEWSLETTER

If you’re like me, you created a LinkedIn account after you graduated college and haven’t done a ton with it since. Don’t overlook this platform as another source to repurpose your content. Take your content from social media and create and schedule those posts. Keep in mind that the LinkedIn audience is a different audience than Instagram or TikTok, so keep things professional and relevant.

LinkedIn also has a newsletter feature that allows you to send out newsletters. This is different than your other email marketing platforms, because you don’t actually have your subscribers’ emails because the newsletters are sent via LinkedIn. With that being said, try to include calls to action that have readers opt-in to your other email/newsletter list so you can get their email.

GOOGLE MY BUSINESS

If you have a business, you need to make sure you’ve registered your business on Google my Business. This is a place potential clients will go to find your business and look at your reviews. Did you know you can also add content on Google My Business? Posting to Google My Business can help SEO efforts when you share relevant and engaging information. As a result, this can increase profile engagement and rankings. Repurposing your social media content on Google My Business is one more way to extend your reach

PODCAST

Another great way to nurture your audiences is through a podcast. This is a convenient way for possible clients to consume your content. If you don’t have a podcast or aren’t quite ready to start one, find podcasts that you can be a guest on and speak about your expertise. Put together an email introducing yourself, and include a media kit that highlights your experience and expertise. There are lots of podcasts that are always looking for guests.

YOUTUBE

YouTube is a searchable platform similar to your blog and Pinterest. That means your content has a longer lifespan because it has a built-in search engine. If you’ve created short- or long-form videos, ensure that you reprise that content on YouTube. Take the time to learn how to find and optimize keywords, and incorporate those into the description of the video.

If creating video isn’t in your wheelhouse but you have a podcast, many podcasting hosting softwares include features that allow you to automatically post your podcast to your YouTube channel.

LIVE WEBINARS

Last but definitely not least, test out the waters with a Facebook or Instagram Live. You’ve already outlined your content above — whether it be for a video, a podcast episode, or an email. So now it’s time to host a live session with the opportunity for Q&A from your audience. We highly recommend this approach when you’re repurposing content that feels extra-complicated. Sometimes talking through it with real-life examples can really captivate your audience.

There you have it: 10 ways to repurpose content for your audience while saving you time. And this only scratches the surface. There are so many more platforms in which you can repurpose content, such as X (formerly Twitter), Snapchat, guest posts, HARO, other blogs, freebies and so much more! It’s important to remember to emphasize quality over quantity. Take the time to create good-quality content and then blast it to the masses to maximize its reach.
