How To Stop Procrastinating

HOW TO STOP PROCRASTINATING

Do you want to go back to school to finish a degree? Are you wanting to start a business or a new career? Do you have things you want to do, but have put them off for years? Its time to dust off your dreams! You have goals that are waiting for you to check off your list. Understanding why we procrastinate will help us finish what we are afraid to start.

How To Stop Procrastinating

There are many causes of procrastination:

  • Lack of Motivation: One of the primary reasons people procrastinate is a lack of motivation. When a task feels uninteresting or lacks personal relevance, it becomes hard to find the drive to actually do it.

  • Perfectionism: Perfectionists often procrastinate because they fear that their work will not meet their exceptionally high standards. This fear of failure or imperfection can paralyze them, leading to avoidance of the task.

  • Poor Time Management: Inefficient time management can lead to procrastination. People may underestimate the time required to complete a task, causing them to delay it until the last minute.

  • Fear of Failure: The fear of failing at a task can be a powerful driver of procrastination. People may delay starting a task to avoid the possibility of not meeting expectations.

  • Lack of Self-Discipline: Procrastination can also result from a lack of self-discipline and self-control. Distractions such as social media, television, and video games can easily lure individuals away from their responsibilities.

Effects of Procrastination

Procrastination can have a wide range of negative effects on individuals’ personal and professional lives:

  • Increased Stress: As deadlines approach, the stress and anxiety associated with procrastination intensify. This can negatively impact mental health and overall well-being.

  • Decreased Productivity: Procrastination leads to decreased productivity and efficiency. Tasks take longer to complete, and the quality of work often suffers as a result.

  • Missed Opportunities: Delaying important tasks can result in missed opportunities. Procrastination may prevent individuals from achieving their goals and aspirations.
  • Strained Relationships: Procrastination can strain relationships, especially when others depend on you to complete tasks or fulfill commitments.

Guilt and Regret: After procrastinating, individuals often experience guilt and regret, which can further perpetuate the cycle of procrastination.

If you are like me, you have a To-Do List a mile long. As the CEO of a household and a business, you wear a million hats. Unfortunately, not only are you the CEO, you are also the housekeeper, the chef, the taxi, the accountant, marketing director, event planner, etc. So even if you could delegate, there is no one to delegate to.

Each day we wake up ready to tackle our list. Have you ever noticed the biggest items—the ones we value most or the things that take the most time—we leave to the last possible minute skip entirely? You might be a self-proclaimed master procrastinator, or you might have convinced yourself that you do better under pressure. Either thought does not alleviate the fact that this behavior is often accompanied with anxiety and stress. The end result is a feeling of depletion or disappointment.

Why do we do this? Why do we procrastinate? We avoid things because we might feel afraid: I am not going to be good enough or smart enough, I am afraid what others will think, or maybe it might be too hard or make me feel uncomfortable. These thoughts dont serve us. They contribute to putting off the things in our life that might bring us the most joy and satisfaction.

So how do we change this habitual pattern? Most of us are not used to noticing what we think. We first need to recognize our thoughts and realize how they are holding us back. The things we think cause us to feel insecurity or fear, which leads to procrastination or inaction. Second, we need to come up with some new thoughts that will help us progress. If you have the thought, I dont know how to do this,” you can change that thought to I need to learn how to do this.” If your thought is, I dont have enough time,” you can change that to, I will make time because it is important to me.” Finally, as you start to recognize and manage your thoughts, you will start to take more action.

Strategies to Overcome Procrastination

Overcoming procrastination is a challenging but achievable goal. By implementing the following strategies, you can break free from the grip of procrastination and reclaim your time and productivity:

  • Set Clear Goals: Define your goals and objectives clearly. Having a clear understanding of what needs to be accomplished can provide motivation and direction.

  • Prioritize Tasks: Use techniques like the Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize tasks based on their importance and urgency. Focus on high-priority tasks first.

  • Break Tasks into Smaller Steps: Large or intimidating tasks can be overwhelming, leading to procrastination. Break them down into smaller, more manageable steps to make progress easier.

  • Create a To-Do List and plan your days the night before: Maintain a to-do list to keep track of tasks and deadlines. Cross off completed items to experience a sense of accomplishment.

  • Use Time Management Techniques: Techniques like time blocking, and batching can help improve time management and prevent procrastination.

  • Eliminate Distractions: Identify and eliminate distractions in your environment. Turn off notifications, create a clutter-free workspace, and establish clear boundaries with technology.

  • Set Realistic Deadlines: Be realistic about the time required to complete tasks. Setting overly ambitious deadlines can lead to procrastination when you realize you can’t meet them.

  • Overcome Perfectionism: Accept that perfection is unattainable and embrace the concept of “good enough.” Focus on progress and learning rather than flawless outcomes.

  • Seek Accountability: Share your goals and deadlines with a trusted friend, family member, or colleague who can hold you accountable for your commitments.

  • Reward Yourself: Set up a system of rewards for completing tasks and reaching milestones. Positive reinforcement can be a powerful motivator.

  • Practice Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself when you slip into procrastination. Self-compassion can help you break the cycle of self-criticism and guilt.

  • Visualize Success: Imagine the satisfaction and benefits of completing a task, and use this visualization to motivate yourself.

This change will not happen overnight. It takes practice and work, but if you put in the effort you will find that procrastination is never the solution. Once you realize that procrastination is just a thought you will have the knowledge and the ability to make changes.  Implement some of these strategies. Start with one or two and keep adding. You will learn to become the best you as you make the major dreams and goals in your life a priority instead of something that you avoid on your To-Do List.

Pricing Strategies For Entrepreneurs

Pricing Strategies For Entrepreneurs

REDEFINE PODCAST

Pricing Strategies For Entrepreneurs

Pricing Strategies For Entrepreneurs

If you are a Business or Life Coach you need to know the value of what you are offering. Having a positive money mindset is instrumental in charging what you are worth however, there are several other factors that need to be taken into consideration when determining pricing strategies for Business and Life Coaches.

Pricing Strategies For Entrepreneurs

Pricing for services and products is calculated from a variety of factors. Each factor needs to be taken into consideration before you set your prices in your business. Consider some of the following:

• Experience level
• Geographical area
• Know your competition
• Understand your ideal client
• What is your desired profit
• Supply and demand

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

There is a lot to be said about a business or life coach with a lot of experience. In many cases, with more experience comes more refined skills, services, and/or products. Word of mouth    recommendations/reviews are the most powerful marketing tool available for your coaching business. Experience coupled with a proven portfolio increases your worth.

Customers are looking for a proven track record of the results they are looking for. When you provide proof that you can provide the desired results customers are willing to pay a higher dollar amount because they believe you can get them exactly what they want.

When you are first starting out your business or life coaching you might consider offering a discount or even offering your services or product for freeuntil you have built a strong and influential portfolio. Everyone has to start somewhere so remember not to compare your beginning to someone else’s middle

GEOGRAPHICAL AREA

There are different geographical areas with a higher income than others. This is the truth. However, there are affluential clients in nearly every area that are looking for business and/or life coaches. Take the time to research the average medium income in your area. When you understand your geographical area you will start to identify what your ideal client is willing to spend.

You can have the most amazing product or service and know that you offer something of high value, but if you don’t have customers willing to pay that amount you will fall short of your financial goals.

KNOW YOUR COMPETITION

Do some research and figure out what your competition is charging. That doesn’t mean you have to charge more or less then what they are charging, but it’s always important to know what others are charging so you can be competitive.

Take the time to really research your competition. Is your competition offering coaching packages? What are other coaches charging, what are they offering, what is their experience level, etc. If your competition has more experience or a stronger more well-known brand set prices that will compete with your competition, but understand you are going to have to execute a strong market plan to compete with an already established brand.

When you are just starting out don’t price yourself too low both this method could have an adverse effect on your business. If your prices are too low potential clients might conclude that what you are offering doesn’t offer a supreme value because the price is low. Depending on your ideal client and what you are offering to be mindful that if your prices are low what type of clients you might be attracting.

UNDERSTAND YOUR IDEAL CLIENT

When you take the time to understand everything there is to know about your ideal client you learn what they value. You will know how to speak their language, know how to help them, and also know how to sell to them. It should be a goal of yours to find the ideal clients that value what you are offering and are willing to pay what your service or product is worth.

Once you have a clear vision of your ideal client you will understand what they will and won’t pay for. If your ideal client values a good service or product, even if you are just starting out, by pricing yourself too low your ideal client could overlook you because they assume you aren’t offering great value because your prices are too low. If your ideal client is someone who is always looking for a great deal and has a low budget by setting your prices too high you could have the same response.

Spend the time to really understand all the characteristics and habits of your ideal clients. By truly understanding your ideal client you will have a clearer vision of how to determine your pricing

WHAT IS YOUR DESIRED PROFIT

Knowing what your desired profit is basic math. How much do you want to make? How much do you want to work?

First, set a financial goal. Let’s say that the financial goal is $100,000 a year. You want to take 2 weeks of vacation and that would mean that you would work 50 weeks out of the year. Then divide $100,000 by 50 and that equals $2000. That would mean you would need to make $2000 a week. If you are service-based that could mean 2 clients a week charging $500 per client or if you sell a product that is $100 that might mean 20 products a week.

Financial goal – $100,000 Weeks of vacation – 52 weeks minus 2 weeks of vacation = 50 weeks of work $100,000/50 weeks = $2000 per week to reach a goal

Once you have established your financial goal you will understand what needs to be done to reach that goal.

SUPPLY AND DEMAND

Whether you are offering a service or a product within the time you will understand the demand for what you are offering. This is established by creating a strong brand that your clients or customers talk about it you will start to become more and more in demand. Or it could be a product or service in a market that is harder to find. Either way when you start to create a demand you have the opportunity to raise your prices.

When people want something they are willing to pay more for that product or service. If what you are offering is in high demand or you find yourself working more than you want that is a sign that it is time to raise your prices. If you are in this position and hesitate to raise your prices you may need to do some thought work and work on your money mindset.

WHEN TO WORK FOR FREE OR DISCOUNTED

When considering working for free or discounted I always ask myself are they influential or affluential. Do they know a lot of people and are they willing to tell or influence others into working with you. If they were paying could they afford it? If the answer is yes, there their network would be wiling to pay.

You are worth a lot and are also very worthy of making the kind of money that you deserve. However, the pricing for your product and/or service hinges on several factors. Create pricing strategies for Business and Life Coaches is essential if you want to compete in the market. Before you set your prices to take the time and do your due diligence, research your market, understand your ideal client, and work on your money mindset.

How To Increase Sells by Maximizing Your Marketing Efforts. If you sell a product or service you know that in addition to an amazing you offer you have to be really good at marketing. If you are going to go through the effort of creating content you want to blast it so it reaches as many people as possible.

Content repurposing is a strategic approach that allows businesses to get more mileage out of their existing
content assets. Instead of constantly churning out new material, repurposing involves taking existing content and posting it on several different platforms and networks.

In this training I will teach you how to create a systems that allows you 10x time your reach and increase your sales!

The Untold Hardships of Entrepreneurship: What They Don't Tell You

Episode #83 The Untold Hardships of Entrepreneurship: What They Don't Tell You

The Untold Hardships of Entrepreneurship: What They Don't Tell You

The life of entrepreneurship often paints a dreamy picture of freedom, wealth, and success. We see the social media posts celebrating young millionaires and the exciting stories of startups that went from zero to hero. This life looks amazing, however the truth of it is behind the glitz and glamour lies a grueling and often unspoken reality: the hardships of being an entrepreneur.

In this podcast, I want to dive into the lesser-known challenges (the ones we don’t talk about enough) that entrepreneurs face on their journey to success.

Loneliness and Isolation

Entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey. While the idea of being your boss may seem appealing, it often translates to long hours of solitary work, especially in the early stages of a business. You may find yourself working late into the night, missing out on social events, and feeling isolated from friends and family who don’t understand the entrepreneurial grind.

The lack of a support system can lead to feelings of loneliness and stress. Entrepreneurs must often make tough decisions on their own, deal with setbacks in solitude, and navigate the uncertainty of their choices without the comfort of coworkers or a corporate safety net.

Financial Uncertainty

Financial instability is one of the most significant and under-discussed hardships of entrepreneurship. While some entrepreneurs strike gold early on, many face years of financial uncertainty and instability. The dream of quick riches can quickly turn into a nightmare of dwindling savings, growing debts, and sleepless nights.

Starting a business often requires significant upfront investments, and there are no guarantees of immediate returns. Even if your business takes off, profits may be reinvested to fuel growth, leaving you with little personal income. This financial rollercoaster can strain personal relationships and lead to anxiety and stress.

High Levels of Stress

Entrepreneurship equals stress. The constant pressure to make your venture succeed, the fear of failure, and the weight of responsibility can take a toll on your mental and physical health. Many entrepreneurs find themselves dealing with anxiety, depression, and burnout.

The stakes are high and you feel it. The failure rate of startups is high, with many businesses folding within the first few years. This constant risk can be emotionally draining, and it’s a burden that many entrepreneurs carry silently.

Long and Unpredictable Hours

The idea of being your own boss may give off the illusion of laid back workdays and flexible schedules. In reality, entrepreneurs often work longer and more unpredictable hours than traditional employees. You’re not just the
CEO; you’re also the accountant, the marketer, the customer support team, and everything in between.

This level of responsibility can lead to chronic overwork, sleep deprivation, and an unending feeling of being on call. Vacations become a rarity, and the boundary between work and personal life blurs, leading to a constant state of “work-life imbalance.”

Sacrificing Personal Life

Entrepreneurship often demands significant sacrifices in your personal life. While some entrepreneurs are celebrated for their dedication and passion, it often comes at a cost. Family gatherings, social events, and personal hobbies may take a backseat to the demands of the business.

Maintaining relationships can be challenging, and many entrepreneurs struggle to find the time and energy to nurture their personal lives. The toll this takes on personal relationships can be huge, leading to strained marriages and friendships.

Handling Failure and Rejection

Failure and rejection are part of the entrepreneurial journey, but they can be emotionally crushing. Whether it’s a rejected pitch, a failed product launch, or a business that doesn’t take off as planned, entrepreneurs face constant disappointments.

What’s often overlooked is how entrepreneurs internalize these failures. It’s not just about the external setbacks; it’s the internal struggle of self-doubt, questioning one’s abilities, and dealing with the fear of public embarrassment. Learning to cope with and bounce back from failure is a crucial, yet rarely discussed, aspect of entrepreneurship.

Legal and Regulatory Challenges

Navigating and understanding regulations and legal requirements can be a significant headache and cost for entrepreneurs. Whether it’s registering a business, obtaining permits, dealing with intellectual property issues, or complying with tax laws, the legal aspect of entrepreneurship can be overwhelming.

Legal battles and disputes can also be financially draining and emotionally taxing. Entrepreneurs often need to invest time and resources in legal matters that detract from their core business focus.

The Weight of Responsibility

Being the captain of your own ship means you’re responsible for every aspect of your business’s success or failure. This weight of responsibility can be crushing at times. It’s not just about making the right decisions; it’s about making them quickly and confidently, even when the outcome is uncertain.

The mental toll of carrying this responsibility can be immense, and it’s a burden that many entrepreneurs grapple with silently. The fear of letting down employees, investors, and customers can be paralyzing.

Comparison

We are all too familiar with the quote that says comparison is the thief of joy. Let me say it again for those in the back. It’s a struggle. We live in this crazy world of social media where we are constantly seeing the success or perception of success. It’s so hard to not feel like we are just not it.

The truth is we don’t ever know what is real, but it’s still a part of life and we are constantly comparing ourselves.

The Emotional Rollercoaster

Entrepreneurship is a rollercoaster of emotions. There are exhilarating highs
when you achieve a significant milestone or secure a big deal, but there are also devastating lows when things don’t go as planned. The emotional ups and downs can be exhausting and mentally draining.

It’s essential for entrepreneurs to develop resilience and coping strategies to navigate this emotional rollercoaster, but this aspect of the journey is rarely discussed in the entrepreneurial success  stories we often hear.

While entrepreneurship offers the promise of independence and potential wealth, it comes with a set of hardships and challenges that are rarely discussed openly. Loneliness, financial instability, high stress levels, long hours, personal sacrifices, handling failure, legal complexities, the weight of responsibility, balancing creativity with reality, and emotional ups and downs
are all part of the entrepreneur’s journey.

It’s crucial to shed light on these hidden hardships to provide a more realistic and balanced perspective of entrepreneurship.

Understanding and preparing for these challenges can help aspiring entrepreneurs make more informed decisions and develop the resilience needed to weather the storms of the entrepreneurial world.

Ultimately, while the path of entrepreneurship is filled with hardships, it also offers the opportunity for personal growth, innovation, and the pursuit of one’s passion and vision. I think we all need to constant reminders that it is okay to feel frustrated and discouraged, but it’s equally important to know that you are never ever alone.

HAPPINESS IS NOT A PLACE IT’S A STATE OF MIND

REDEFINE PODCAST

HAPPINESS IS NOT A PLACE IT'S A STATE OF MIND

Episode #81

I recently moved back home to Utah after 19 years away. There are several reasons we moved back, but mainly we wanted to be by family. My 18 year son moved to Utah for the summer to do an internship and to be honest it was kind of an impulse move and happened very quickly. My daughter was going into 9th grade and so we thought it was no or never and we did it. I have moved over 15 times in my adult life and each time I have had so much learning and growth. If you have moved a lot in your life, you will get it.

As my kids have grown I have always made it goal to have my house be the party house. I love having people at my house and especially kids. Many of my house decisions revolve around “oh the kids will love that”. We had the ultimate party house in El Paso with a sand volleyball court, pool, basketball court, and outdoor kitchen. It was the best. We had kids at our house non-stop and it was dreamy.

We put our house in Texas on the market and it sold in 2 days so we were
happy about that. The market is a little cray-cray right now so for now we are
renting.

Happiness Is Not a Place it's a State of Mind

Change is often hard and although my daughter has been thriving in the most important areas, she has struggled in other areas. I recognize this is a 1st world  problem and I have to remember my daughter is a teenager, but upon moving into our rental she realized how much smaller her bedroom was. She tried to have a positive attitude, but couldn’t hide her feelings of disappointment that her days of “the party house” are temporarily put on hold.

I tried, with little effort, to teach her a life lesson that I learned years ago. That lesson is happiness is not a place it’s a state of mind.

Years ago I had written a blog post on this exact topic. The blog was about my experience when I had moved to El Paso, Texas from Canton, MI.

Shortly after moving to El Paso, I decided to go for a run. I ran a few miles and then stopped myself in my tracks. I was in awe. The stars were so big and bright. I had been living in Michigan for the past six and half years and although the state was covered in lush, vibrant greenery and beautiful, serene lakes, it was always overcast. I soon learned that not only did El Paso have 300-and something days of sunshine, but that the sunsets were also beyond amazing. Dusk was regularly a display of colors that I didn’t previously know existed. The palm trees framed the sky like a scene from a postcard. To me, El Paso sky was beyond amazing.

Finding the Silver Lining

I have moved several times in my life, but I can’t pick which place was my favorite. I have loved them all for very different reasons. I always say I can be happy anywhere.

Often, we think we would be happy if we had this or that. Then we get this or that and find we are still not happy. Sometimes life takes us to places we never thought we would go. Sometimes the reasons we are taken there are not the most ideal and can be a result of trial or struggle. We may end up in places because of circumstances that are out of our control. We don’t always have choices when it comes to circumstances, but we always have choices about what we choose to think and feel about those circumstances.

When I look back over the last 25 years or so of my life there wasn’t one place I lived that I didn’t have an abundance of love, friendship, opportunity, memories, and happiness. Maybe I am just a glass-half-full kind of person, but there is always a silver lining if you look for it.

If you find yourself thinking that you don’t like where you live or what your life looks like right now, take some time and reflect on your thoughts. Change your thoughts to focus on the good. Search for gratitude. There is something good in every situation. As you learn to identify, control, and change your thoughts, you will soon realize that happiness is not a place, but a state of mind.

HOW TO MAKE INCREASE SALES BY MAKING OFFERS

HOW TO INCREASE SALES BY MAKING OFFERS

REDEFINE PODCAST

HOW TO INCREASE SALES BY MAKING OFFERS

HOW TO INCREASE SALES BY MAKING OFFERS

How to Increase Sales by Making Offers

One of the biggest issues entrepreneurs face is hesitating to promote offers. We’re unsure of how, when, or where to put it out into the world.

We spend an endless amount of time creating freebies, lead magnets, programs, and products, then stick them on our website and cross our fingers, hoping they sell. Learning how to increase sales by making offers is key to growth.

One of the questions I often ask my clients is do your followers know you have
a business or do they think you are an influencer?
Do you want your business to grow? If you answered yes (and I know you answered yes), you MUST promote your own stuff and you MUST do it
consistently.

Let's Talk Mindset

Let’s address the mindset issues we might be dealing with when it comes to making offers. Do any of these thoughts sound familiar?

• I don’t want to sound sales-y
• I don’t want to annoy people
• I don’t know how many times/days to share something
• It’s so much work to post constantly
• I’m not able to be consistent
• I hate talking about myself
• I already posted it on social media

These mindsets will hold you back. The first step is recognizing they are present. The next step is shifting into mindsets that serve you better.

If you don’t get excited about what you are offering, you have two choices: Change your offer or change your mindset. Ask yourself these questions: Do I get excited about my offer as I do when Target puts out their holiday candy? You should strive for the same enthusiasm when you are talking about your offer.

People have followed you online because they want to hear from you. If they
like your free Instagram posts and your weekly emails, they will probably be
all about whatever product you’ve just launched. Don’t deny them the
opportunity to work with you or advance their skills. Because that’s what you’re doing when you don’t promote – you are assuming you know what
they are thinking and you’re making sure they miss out

Promoting Your Service or Product

  1. People need to come in contact with you 8 times before they decide they need it. Consider this: how many times have you seen something-maybe a new trend, maybe a gadget on an infomercial – and immediately thought, “that is ridiculous” or “who would buy that??” But then you see it again, and again, and again, and again, and after a couple of weeks, you suddenly want it.
  2. Most people are not glued to their computer scanning all of your Instagram feed, pins, and blog posts all day long. At least I hope not, because that’s a
waste of time. My point being, they will probably miss out on 75% of the stuff you share, so you need to share it multiple times for it to not only catch their eye, but stick in their mind. Also, don’t get stuck on the idea that just because you posted it on one platform, you shouldn’t post it on another. Most people spend a majority of their time on just one or two platforms. That is why it is important to repurpose your content on multiple platforms and do it often.

Expanding Your Reach as Far as Possible

When you truly understand your audience, you will know where they spend their time. Make a list of all the places your ideal audience is present (Instagram, Pinterest, email list, Facebook Groups, etc). Each week or month select an offer you want to focus on. Commit to posting your offer multiple times a week on each of the places your ideal audience visits. You want to maximize your reach with each of your offers.

Have Your Audience do the Talking for You

The best person to promote your product is actually not you. It’s the client who finished your course and saw amazing results, your client who you helped transformed, or your client who was super impressed by the work you did. Always remember to include an automated email in your client experience that asks for testimonials and reviews. When you receive
any testimonials, turn them into posts, graphics in your emails, and/or include them on your sales pages. If you blog make sure you’ve got share buttons and Pinterest pin features on your blogs. Clients who have loved working with you will quickly become one of your best marketing tools.

The success of your business is 40% an amazing product and 60% how well you market and sell it. If you are struggling with mindset, work on that first and foremost. After you are in a good headspace, focus on making offers every single day. Once you learn how to increase sales by making offers you will see tremendous growth!
