Goal Setting

Goal Setting

I have always been a goal setter. But I dont always accomplish all of my goals. I am pretty sure I have had the goal journal regularly” on my list for the last 20 years and fail miserably year after year. But thats okay. I believe the reason to have goals is not necessary to feel good or bad about ourselves, but to strive to become the best version of ourselves. We should constantly be pushing to become a better version of ourselves. Setting goals helps us get there.

Everyone has dreams and ambitions. Accomplishing goals is something we all strive for. We have serious goals we want to accomplish, but maybe we keep putting them off for one reason or another.

Common excuses to justify our inaction

We come up with excuses to justify our inaction. Two of the most common are:

  1. Not enough time
  2. Not enough money.

Sound familiar? On the contrary, if our car broke down or you had to get a life-saving treatment your insurance didn’t cover, we find the time and/or money. We make it happen because it is important to us.

So why dont we take that same action when it comes to our accomplishing our goals?  The reason we dont take action is because of a thought in our minds. It sounds simple, but the thoughts we have either drive us or stall us. Lets think about it. When we decide to buy a car, what thoughts drive us? The thoughts can be, I need this car to be safe,” or, this car will be more practical.” Whatever the thoughts, we eventually take action and buy a car.

If you arent acting on something important to you, its because of your current thoughts. Figure out what those thought are. What feelings do those thoughts cause? The combination of our thoughts and feelings determine our action or inaction, so it is important to identify them.

If you aren’t taking action on something in your life, you have to ask the questions: Is it really important to you or do you just think it’s important?

When our goals become truly important enough to us, they evolve into a priority. Then, when it becomes a priority we will figure out ways to make it happen. We start to change the way we think about our goals.  As you start to believe those new, more empowering thoughts, you will feel driven to take the action that you want.

It is time to start accomplishing your goals. Its time to begin what you are afraid you wont finish. You can do it! Create a thought that will lead to the feeling youre needing to motivate yourself.

Once we are in a good head space with our goals, it’s time to start setting them and taking action.

If you find yourself resisting to set goals, ask yourself why? This could be what is holding you back before you even start.

I don’t have the research to back this up, but I would be willing to bet the most successful entrepreneurs are goal setters. I’m only speaking from my own experience, but the bigger my goals become the more success I have achieved.

Law Of Attraction

Do you believe in the laws of attraction?

I do.

The law of attraction is legit. What we focus on, talk about, think about, or believe, WILL happen. Have you ever noticed how successful people keep having more success? Or sad and negative people only see sad and depressing things in life, and keep experiencing them? What you put your energy into, will return to you. The law of attraction can start with an idea or a thought, but it is way more powerful if you write it down.

WRITE IT DOWN

The first and most important thing about setting goals, is to write down. When we write down our goals they become real. They are no longer just a wish, idea, or a thought.

When you write it down, be specific. Identify when you want to complete the goal and how you will measure its completion. For example: I will grow my email list by 10K by December 31st. You have given yourself a finish goal deadline. You will know it is completed because you will have 10K more subscribers on your email list.

OBSTACLES

As we set our goals, obstacles are bound to arise. We might have the thought that we dont have enough time, we arent smart enough, or we are not capable of reaching what we most desire. Equally important as setting goals is identifying the obstacles that keep us from reaching them. Make a list of as many things you can think of that might get in your way from completing your goals. Now youre on the offensive.

STRATEGY

Once you have a detailed list of your obstacles, it is time to form strategies. Figure out ways that you can overcome the obstacles. Dont let yourself get overwhelmed and definitely dont underestimate your potential. If one of your obstacles is that you dont know how to do something, your strategy can be to learn how to do it or to find someone else to do it for you. Often, when we feel stuck, we slip into inaction. Dont let that happen!  You can do anything you set your mind to do. Remember you are in control of your mind and your thoughts.

For example, I wanted a new website. I recognized that I had a the thoughts, I don’t know how to build a website and websites seemed to complicated. Immediately, I changed those thoughts to “I am smart and capable, and I can build a website.” My obstacle was the lack of knowledge. My strategy was I am going to learn to build a website. Then, I took my strategy one step further. I planned out my strategy. Finally, I designated one hour every day to either learn how to build a website, or to work on my website.

Guess what?

I build my own website. It took me almost 6 months, but now I know how to build websites, and I have build many websites since that time. I promise, if I can build a website, you can do whatever it is you want to do.

MY CHALLENGE FOR YOU

I want to challenge you this year to set a really, really big goal for yourself. After you have done this write down the obstacles and the strategies, and then take action. I can’t promise you will achieve this goal, but I promise you will get a lot closer than if you would have not set the goal.

As you work towards your goals you will see your own growth. Your mind will get stronger and youll begin to cultivate confidence. The amazing thing about goal setting is that whether or not you reach your goals, you are guaranteed to become a better, more-improved version of yourself.

I am excited to see you achieve your goals this year, and to get you started I have created my Goal Setting Guide for Entrepreneurs. I will put the link in the show notes and on my website.

You got this! I believe in you.

My Daily And Weekly Routine

My Daily And Weekly Routine

REDEFINE PODCAST

My Daily And Weekly Routine

My Daily And Weekly Routine

Im fascinated by people. Im intrigued by their habits, routines, traditions, and rituals. In particular, Im curious about successful people. Have you ever wondered what someones day looks like? Take Elon Musk, for example. Is he an early bird or a night owl? Does he watch TV, or does he read books? Does he eat at home, or does he goes through the drive-thru?

Maybe its just me? Im a curious being. If youve met me in person, you know that Im a very inquisitive person. I ask A LOT of questions.

With all that being said, maybe some of my listeners share this same curiousity and I thought it would be fun to walk you through my daily and weekly routines. Ive deemed myself the Time Management Ninja,” so maybe you can find some helpful hints to help you increase your productivity.

My Daily and Weekly Routine

Lets start with Monday morning.

I get up most days between 5:30-6:00 a.m. Most weeks, I work out 5 out of the 7 days. I have a friend I run 3 miles with on Mondays. I call this my Monday morning therapy. Theres something about spending time in the dark that gets you talking. On other days, I work out at my clubhouse. This is the time I listen to podcasts or books. The topic depends on my my mood, but for the most part, I love business and self-help books. Im super exciting. 😉

I get back home just in time to tell my 18-year-old son goodbye as he heads to school. I jump in the shower and get ready for the day. My 14-year-old daughter stumbles downstairs, and I try to bite my tongue and not say anything about what shes wearing to school. The struggle is real.

I drive my daughter to school, get back home around 8:45 a.m., and get to work. I plan my days the night before so I can get right to work. When I plan my days, I give myself 3 main goals and then create a to-do list. My main goals are the most important things that move the needle in my business the most.

Monday is my Content Creation” day. I dedicate one hour on Monday to create content for my Instagram. I post 4 times a week, Monday-Thursday.

Im a time blocker. I set my watch for 1 hour, and when my alarm goes off, I stop what Im doing. Sometimes Ive created all my content and scheduled it, and sometimes I didnt get everything created. If thats the case, I schedule some time to create content on another day.

Once I finish that hour, I move on to the next goal on my list. It depends on what Im working on, but these goals could be record a podcast, create a content for my membership or a course Im working on, spend time preparing a training, work on some of my 1:1 clientsprojects, etc. If the goal is a big project that takes hours, I time block and set my timer for an hour.

When Im finished with my 3 main goals, I move on to my to-do List. My to-do list has items that are important to my business, but not AS important. Typical things on my to-do list on a Monday might be: check in with clients, engage on social media for 30 minutes, schedule reminder emails for the quarter, journal, give client feedback, reach out to 5 collabs, spend 30 minutes learning a new program, etc.

In between the goals and tasks, I have client calls or podcast interviews. I try to only schedule those 2-3 days a week. Ive learned Im way more productive when I have consecutive hours.

My son, a senior, gets home from school around 1 p.m. I usually take a break, and we talk about the day for about 30-45 minutes. He usually then does his own thing, and I spend a couple more hours trying to tie up anything that needs to be done before my daughter gets home. Once both my kids are home from school, I try really hard to disconnect and give them all my attention. This is something Im continually working on.

The hustle and bustle of mom life keeps me busy. I try to get to bed around 10 p.m., but often its later than that. (Remember the days of getting 8 hours of sleep? I miss those days.) Before I go to bed, I get my planner out and schedule my days. I look at my appointments and put them in the appropriate time slots, and then I write out my 3 main goals and to-do list. Planning your day the night before is such a game changer. You get right to work.

Monday-Thursday, I work on and in my coaching business. I designate Friday as the day that I try to work on my nonprofit, go to lunch with friends, or just do something for myself. If I do work on Friday in my coaching business, its typically only for an hour or so.

I TRY to disconnect on the weekends, and for the most part, I do a pretty good job. When Monday comes around, Im excited and motivated to get to work. Ive cleared my head, and I feel refreshed and ready to go.

I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 15 years, and in that time, I’ve learned lots of tips and tricks on being productive. Of course, automations and systems are essential, but Ive also learned the importance of having routines and schedules. Ive also learned to eliminate things that dont help me progress. Im very protective of my time and schedule and know things like social media, phone calls from friends, and emails can be huge distractions. I give myself boundaries for the things that distract me and have learned to stick to those boundaries. Ive always been a planner, but combining planning with strategy is what will take your business to the next level.

Set goals and get a plan on how youre going to achieve those goals. Schedule specific tasks on your calendar that will help you achieve those goals. Then you want to rinse and repeat until it becomes habit.

I have included my daily routine guide for FREE here:

Business Law with Brittany Ratelle

Today I talk with Brittany about things in our business that we may not think about. That is, getting your business organized when it comes to all things legal.

The following are the things that we address in the podcast:

  • Brittany talks about getting an LLC and why she recommends getting one earlier rather than later.
  • Trademarking…when is it a necessity? How important is it to trademark your business when it is your own name? Brittany also shares information about filing for a trademark.
  • Content and Creative works is another topic we focus on. Brittany shares two tools you can use to protect your creative works.
Two tools:
    1. Copyright- protects the “creative guts” of something. Brittany goes into the details and recommends getting a registration of your copyrights.
    2. Contracts- are the right vehicle to talk about the rights of a particular creative work. She also covers the difference between terms and conditions and a contract.
  • Brittany shares other tips and important things you need to know as an entrepreneur. There seems to be a lack of awareness on issues such as reposting content when sharing others work (even when you tag them)…you must be careful of copyright infringement.
  • She also shares tips for content creatives. Be sure that you have all the rights for the pictures that are posted on your blog. Be careful not to drop in photos from other sites into your own blog- they could be copyrighted!
  • Lastly, Brittany shares her pet peeves and her simple pleasure!

Take your business seriously. Having legal is part of being a business owner. Establishing proper boundaries, a clear expectation a good contract is nothing to fear. These are so important for your business.

What To Include In Your
Welcome Packet For Online Coaches

What To Include In Your Welcome Packet

A welcome packet is a must-have for any business. When you are running your own business and trying to manage multiple tasks, time management and preparation are necessities. Maintaining professionalism and organization will ensure relationships with each client.

Creating a welcome packet is a great way to impress your clients and build a strong brand. By creating a welcome packet, you are able to set boundaries and expectations from the beginning.  You also have the opportunity to answer questions before they are asked. This will save you time with your communication. Do you know what to include in your welcome packet for potential clients?

You are trying to create an experience with your clients and every bit of communication will add to that experience.

INITIAL EMAIL

Potential clients typically will contact you through a form on your website or an email.  At this point they may schedule a consult or request pricing. If a consult is the first interaction, use email to follow up and reiterate what you may or may not have discussed and include your welcome packet.

This first emails is a great opportunity to thank them for their interest and their potential business.  You can include a link to your welcome packet or attach a PDF. I use Canva to create mine. You can connect payment links and download it as a PDF or you can share it using a link.

When it comes to building a welcome packet, include these key elements:

WELCOME & GRATITUDE

The first section of your welcome should thank them for the opportunity, but also show them that you are qualified to help them. If they found you through your website or social media they probably know you are qualified to help them, so this is an opportunity to just remind them that you are a good fit and let them know that you have helped others get the sought after results.

This first section should also go into detail about what they will be getting by working with you. This can be a product, service, or transformation. List the brief details of  what is included or will be discussed when working with you.

PROCESS

The next section of your welcome packet will discuss the process. Give a brief overview of what it will look like to work with you. Let them know how you work and what systems you may use in your correspondence and delivery modes.

This section could include: when and where you will meet, scheduling information, guidelines, canceling or rescheduling policies, and anything else they need to know about your process.

Expectations

In this email, you will go into great detail about what the client can expect from working with you. Make sure to cover every detail and layout your expectations.  Give them a timeline with dates to ensure you are on the same page. You may have discussed some of these details in a consult or conversation, but you want to reiterate it in writing.

SUPPORT

This section will educate your potential clients on the best way to get a hold of you. If you use apps like Voxer or Marco Polo you could list that as a communication option. You could also include information on Facebook Groups, Slack, or any other support. Also, in this section you can include programs you use such as Kajabi, Teachable, or YouTube.

This is also a great section to set some boundaries. Let your potential clients know that you have specific office hours and certain times that you are not available. You can include what your standard turnover time is. For example, you can say I will get back to you within 24 hours. It is best to let clients understand your policies beforehand so there are no surprises.

Word to the wise, try to hold solid to your time boundaries. All it takes is one time to communicate during the weekend or at 11:00pm at night and then your client will start expecting that.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You can also include a section on what they can expect by working with you. This is a section where you can reiterate that you are dedicated to their success. You can state that you will be dependable, hold them accountable, support them, and do everything you can to help them get results.

Depending on what type of coaching you are doing, but this could be a opportunity to remind your client that you will give them the tools they need to succeed, but ultimately it is up to them to put in the work.

PRICING

Last section and your call to action. If you require payment upfront, link your payment options near the end of your welcome packet.  If payment is required at a later time, link your entire price list to ensure they know what exactly what they are investing in.  If you provide completely custom and tailored quotes, break down the details of the quote and follow it up with a separate email.

Make it as easy as possible for your potential clients to pay you. Hyperlink your payment options in your welcome packet, so all they have to do is click a button and it will redirect them to the payment portal.

Communication is very important in any business. Take the time and effort to create a thorough and detailed welcome packet that represent your brand and reflect your values.

When you know what to include in your welcome packet for potential clients it builds rapport and trust and shows a level professionalism that will set you apart from your competition.

In Episode 39, hear about how SEO plays a powerful part in business success and how you can optimize your content on your website to bring steady traffic and new clients.

The Importance of SEO

Entrepreneurs don’t typically focus enough on SEO, but put more time and focus on social media. SEO is a very powerful tool as far as traffic for your business goes. When evaluating your social media efforts- is your social media moving your business forward? SEO so frequently gets overlooked. If you are not focusing on this then you are missing out on traffic and clients… not just in the present, but in the years to come.

The Life Span Of Your Work

Creating evergreen content. What is the lifespan of your efforts and work you put into you business? For example: You may spend a considerable amount of time creating a great reel for your Instagram page, but in a few days, that work will be buried and not seen much any longer. However, a blog post for example, will have a really long life span. People can google this and it can still come up as page one and drive traffic to your website…which ultimately converts followers into clients.

Your web pages are important. The more you have, the more content you create, can do so much for your business. Every page you have creates more key words and can create better traffic. Did you know that you can repurpose your content. This is an important element. You can take your posts that have good ranking and make that post even better by re indexing it and changing the publish date. One tip that will drive more traffic to you!

Blair answers SEO questions

Questions I, Brittni,  get from my clients:

  • As far as websites go, do some perform better than others? WordPress is a great platform, but is it the only one used for good SEO? What about Square Space and Show it?
  • What is your number 1 tip for SEO? Hint: it is all about content! Blair shares about content, key words and what will move the needle forward.
  • Is optimizing your SEO going to bring immediate results? Blair talks about being patient- it is not an overnight thing. However, with the right SEO strategies, even content that is 5 years old will still drive business.
  • Blair tells us about her SEO course that she offers Content That Converts. This step-by-step course helps you to optimize your website content and improve your SEO to help bring you more business success.

How to Position Yourself as an Expert

How to Position Yourself as an Expert

REDEFINE PODCAST

How to Position Yourself as an Expert

How to Position Yourself as an Expert

I had a good friend who shared an experience about a life coach she had hired. Her experience was horrible, and she wouldnt recommend the life coach to anyone. When I inquired about how she had found him she told me she had seen him speak on stage at a conference a few months earlier. We both agreed that when someone speaks to the masses they are assumed to be an expert. What are the lessons learned here? First, master your art or skill. Second, try to get on as many stages as possible.  If you are wanting to charge high-end prices you have to learn how to positioning yourself as expert.

How to Position Yourself As An Expert

No matter what business or industry youre in, if you arent able to get new clients, you probably wont stay in business for very long. As you probably already know, many markets are very saturated and competitive. Your prospects likely have lots of different options to choose from. Being able to stand out from your competitors, and position yourself as the person or business most suited to serve them is a must for your success.

The secret to getting noticed despite all the noise in the marketplace is authority. When you have authority, people will pay attention. When you are perceived as an expert in your industry, people will naturally want to work with you. They will seek you out.

Getting to that level is all about positioning. Using a few simple strategies, you can position yourself as the go-to expert in your industry. You can attract business to you. Instead of constantly hustling to find your next client, you can turn yourself into a client magnet and let them find you.

10 Ways to Position Yourself as An Expert

Here are 10 ways you can position yourself as the go-to expert in your industry:

1. Start your own blog

You want to have your own website, but more specifically, you should have your own blog. Having a blog enables you to share valuable content, whether in written or video format, on a regular basis. As you publish and promote your content online, you will gradually begin to position yourself as an expert on the topics that you focus on.

Another advantage of blogging regularly is that it gives other people a chance to share your content with their networks (for example, through social media), which then improves your SEO and attracts others to your website. A well-written article with valuable information is likely to be shared by the people who enjoyed it. This is how content goes viral – through peer-to-peer sharing. By blogging regularly, you expose your brand and your business to new audiences on a consistent basis.

2. Write for other authority sites and blogs

Make a list of the most popular websites and blogs in your industry. These are the sites that your ideal clients are visiting regularly to obtain information about your topic. Contact those websites, and request to become a guest contributor. Most website owners are always looking for high-quality content to publish on their websites that will add value to their visitors.

Write an article exclusively for each website on your list, and include your bio with a link back to your website at the end of your article. This strategy, known as guest blogging, helps you get your message in front of new audiences online that may have never discovered you otherwise. You provide content to the website for free, and that content helps direct new visitors to your website.

3. Be a guest on podcasts

Most podcast hosts are always on the lookout for more guests to interview for their show. Google search or head over to iTunes, and take a look at the top-ranked shows in your industry/niche. If you think that your story, message, or advice would add value to the audience of a specific podcast, then visit that podcasts website and find their Contact Page. Send the host a brief message outlining your experience and area of expertise, and tell them youd like to be considered as a potential guest for their show.

Many podcasts attract thousands, even tens of thousands of listeners on a regular basis. If you make it a routine to be a guest on other podcasts regularly, your name will gradually become known by thousands of highly targeted people from around the world. At the end of each interview, tell the listeners how they can get in touch with you, offer a freebie, or reference your social media handles

4. Host your own podcast

There are many ways you can build a platform, but as of today, hosting a podcast is likely the most effective way to do so. Many authors, speakers, coaches, consultants, and even large organizations have resorted to podcasting to share their message and grow their audience.

There is a massive shift in the way we consume our information. People want specific information, on-demand, in a format that is convenient for them. This is one of the reasons why podcasting has become so popular. Unlike a video, article, or book, which requires 100% of someones time and attention to consume, a person can listen to a podcast while doing something else such as exercising, driving, or cleaning the house.

Having your own podcast allows you to share your story and advice on a very specific topic and attract a very specific target audience. Starting one now will likely give you an advantage over your competitors.

5. Create a Facebook page or Facebook Group

If youre active on social media, you should consider creating a Facebook Page for your personal brand or for your business. Having your own Facebook page (this is different from a personal profile) is a great way to achieve celebrity” status in your industry/niche. When someone has a Facebook page with hundreds or even thousands of fans, there is a strong element of social proof that helps identify them as an expert in their industry.

Having a Facebook page also enables you to take advantage of the incredibly powerful advertising opportunities that Facebook offers. You cannot place ads on Facebook as an individual. You need to have a page. Once your page is set up, you can create ads that will display in the news feeds and/or sidebars of highly targeted Facebook users. You can also pay to promote your posts, exposing them to new audiences.

Another way to leverage Facebook to build your personal brand is to start a Facebook Group. Creating a Facebook Group enables you to create a sense of community among your audience. Unlike a Facebook Page (which is typically just a place for you to broadcast your message or content to your followers), a Facebook Group is the perfect environment for facilitating conversations and building strong relationships with other members of the group. As the leader and facilitator of the group, its members will appreciate you giving them the opportunity to receive valuable insights and encouragement from other members.

6. Optimize your LinkedIn profile

LinkedIn is a very popular social network for entrepreneurs and business professionals. Your LinkedIn profile is a great place to showcase your expertise, professional experience, and achievements. Used properly, it can be an incredibly powerful networking and positioning tool.

Here are a few tips to optimize your LinkedIn profile:

• Use a professional photo for your profile picture (preferably a headshot)

• Write a compelling profile description that highlights your experience and areas of expertise

• Add specific skills to your profile so that people in your network can endorse you for those skills (endorse other peoples skills first, and they will likely reciprocate)

• Collect testimonials from other LinkedIn users in your network (write testimonials for other people first, and they will likely reciprocate)

• Include a way to contact you or a link to your website.

7. Add client testimonials to your website or marketing materials

Regardless of which type of business you have, this strategy is very effective. Contact some of your previous clients and ask them to prepare a testimonial on your behalf. Ask them for permission to display that testimonial on your website and in your marketing materials. Video testimonials are ideal, although written testimonials are still very effective.

As consumers decide who to purchase a product or service from, they want to see some sort of social proof that others have had a good experience with that product or service. No one wants to risk spending their money on a mediocre product or service or being the first one to purchase it. They want to be sure that what they are buying will truly add value to them, and that others who have bought before them have been satisfied with their experience.

8. Comment on blogs and in social media groups

A great way to become known in your industry is to engage in conversations that are happening on the popular blogs and social media groups (Facebook groups, LinkedIn groups, etc.) in your industry. This is not a strategy for pitching your product or service or aggressively sharing a link to your website all over the internet (that is considered spamming). This strategy is for adding value to others by sharing helpful advice, insights, and responding to questions that other people are asking.

Another advantage of adding value to the conversations that are happening online is that the owners of those blogs or social media groups will likely notice. Building relationships with other influencers in your industry is never a bad idea because it opens the door for potential collaborations or partnerships in the future. Commenting regularly on their platforms can help build that relationship.

9. Publish a book

Writing and publishing a book is one strategy that can help to immediately set you apart from most of your competitors. Think about it. If your competitors are handing out business cards, hoping their phone will ring, and youre giving copies of your book as gifts to potential clients, who do you think will win more business? You will, because youre the one with a book.

Fortunately, it is no longer difficult or expensive to become an author. Once youve written your book and had a cover designed, you can self-publish your book on Amazon and immediately make it available to a global audience in both digital and paperback format. People from all over the world who are searching for a book on your topic can find it and buy it directly from Amazon. You can also keep several printed copies on hand at all times to give as gifts or sell at events/conferences.

10. Speak at live events

Most people are terrified of speaking in public, so when they see someone do it they tend to immediately perceive that person as an expert and a leader. Plus, when you speak to a live audience, you have their undivided attention for the duration of your presentation. This affords you a unique opportunity to engage and connect with a large number of people at the same time.

If youve never spoken in public before, a great starting point to develop your skills is your local Toastmasters Group. This is a non-threatening, positive environment in which people meet regularly to practice their speaking and communication skills. Once you build up some confidence, you can begin speaking at networking events, Meetup groups, seminars, or conferences in your industry. If you speak regularly to groups of hundreds or even thousands of people, you can establish yourself as an expert in your industry very quickly.

Start Slow and Build Momentum

Keep in mind that positioning yourself takes time. Dont try to tackle them all at once, this will cause more overwhelm than success. Commit to one or two strategies at a time and then measure your results before implementing more.

Even if you implement just a few of these strategies properly, you can expect to attract a considerable amount of new business. If you eventually apply most of them, or even all of them simultaneously, it wont be long before you are presented with lots of opportunities and considered an expert in your field.

Haitian Roots with Chareyl Moyes

Learn more about Haitian Roots with Chareyl Moyes on the Redefine Podcast. Haitian Roots is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering underserved Haitian children through education. This organization started in 2005 and now has two schools with nearly 500 students. Haitian Roots  believes that education is the key to changing Haitian society. Not only do they education children, but they help and educate parents, teachers, and communities. They get everyone involved and use Haitian resources to ultimately empower the Haitian people and support their economy.  Haitian Roots relies upon donations and 100% of funds go toward educating and the betterment of Haiti.

What IS Discussed on the podcast?

  • Brittni’s first introduction too this nonprofit was when she visited Haiti during the opening of their first school. She shares her impressions and why she feels this information needs to be shared.
  • Chareyl shares how she adopted a Haitian child, which was her motivation to do more in Haiti. After covered what they really needed, she found that education trumps everything. Empower others to be self reliant is critical. Their goal is to teach the people of Haiti that they don’t need to rely on others to save them. They can save themselves…hope is found within themselves.
  • After seeing the poverty of Haiti, sponsoring 2 children and meeting their family, Brittni wanted to do more! She asked Chareyl if they could donated some money to the family and was surprised by the response she got. Brittni then goes on to share two things she has learned from Charyel…

Two Things Chereyl Taught Brittni:

  1. Sometimes helping hurts. After offering monetary assistance, she came to recognize that sometimes when we think we are helping by giving someone something… unless we are allowing them to earn it, we really aren’t helping them.

Chareyl goes on to tell about the orphanage crisis. People with the greatest of hearts can donate money to things such as orphanages, but really this support is actually fueling the problem in Haiti. Chareyl says that nearly 85% of children in the orphanages there have living parents. When a parent reaches a point where they think that the orphanage will give their child better care and food etc, then they turn their child over.

Another example of how helping hurts sometimes was after an earthquake. There was talk about others coming into the country to set up free hospitals. She shares what she learned from the owner of the hospital there as to why exactly this would do more harm than good to the people of Haiti and what would really help their people and economy. Sometimes we don’t know exactly what the people need until you go, and you talk to the right people and you see what the true need is.

Chareyl said this… ” When you learn something and you know more and you know better… you need to do better.”

     2. When sharing her big plan to help with Chareyl, Brittni learned that there’s a lot of talk and no action out there. Stop talking and take action. It is all about taking action and being the change.

Brittni also talks about how serving others feels best when nobody is looking and about nonprofits. Brittni has a nonprofit and has had several people ask how hard is it to have a nonprofit? They cover the challenges of having a nonprofit and a key take away from Chareyl. That is – don’t reinvent the wheel. Partner up!

Facebook Groups For Your Business

If you have a business, more than likely you have a Facebook Page.  Online marketing is constantly changing and as a whole, we are all yearning for more connection and personalized interaction. We have the need to feel like part of a community and to belong.  This is something you can create for your potential clients through Facebook groups.  When you understand how you can use Facebook groups to improve your business.

What is the difference between a Facebook page and a Facebook group?

A Facebook Business Page is similar to your website. You display your contact information, portfolio, latest happenings, and your recent content.

A Facebook Group is a page hosted by a person or business that invites and gathers people to become part of a community. Members can post their thoughts and questions and have the ability to interact with other members. It is a place to support one another and build each other up in an interactive community. A Facebook Group is another tool you can leverage to build the know, like and trust” factor in your business.

I have a Facebook Group for my business. There are several reasons that I love using a Facebook Group for my business and I will get into those, but first I want to walk you through the set up, because this will be important to help your business grow.

NAMING YOUR GROUP

Sometimes we want to come up with a clever name or a play on words, but its a better idea to include keywords in your group name. For example, if I want to create a group for business women, I might use words like a female entrepreneur, mom boss, girl boss, lady,  etc.

Using appropriate keywords will help your group rank in Facebook search results.  If someone is searching for a group and type in a keyword like business women and your group has that in the title, your group is more likely to show up. Also, Facebook will start recommending your group to people with similar interests. This is a great way to gain more members.

DESCRIPTION

Similar to the group name, you want to utilize the most ideal keywords in the description.  What would your ideal client be searching for?  Try to saturate your description with those keywords by still remaining authentic.
Your description will be visible to people who are not currently members.  Create a keyword-rich description of who the group is for and the benefits of joining.  For example, I might write something like this:
A group dedicated to all women in business. Its a community for female entrepreneurs to share questions, get advice, feel inspired and find support and friendship.

TAGS

Facebook will prompt you to list tags.  Tags are words that are associated with your group. This helps Facebook understand the nature of your group and also recommend to people with similar interests.  Tags are your keywords so use your best ones in this section.

Whenever you are setting up any profile on any platform make sure you understand each field and optimize it.

COVER PHOTO

Similar to your Facebook Business page you will need a cover photo. I use Canva to create mine.  Make sure to put the title of your group on your cover photo and that the image is relevant to the group.

PRIVACY SETTINGS

This next step is really important and I am going to explain why. You want to set your group to private. This means people have to request to join and you have to approve them. This allows you to make sure the people in your group are ideal client or audience. You have to approve people to let them in your group so you are able to decline someone who may not be a good fit. The privacy setting brings us to the next setting.

MEMBERSHIP REQUEST

When your group is private you have the option of asking people questions before they join the group.  Use these questions to understand your members.  Depending on the group but you can ask them what they do, what they are hoping to get from the group, what they do, etc.  One of your questions most defiantly needs to be a question requesting their email address. With that being said you need to frame the question in a way that people will want to give you their email address.  You can ask for their email address so you can send them weekly tips and tricks so they dont miss anything or tell them you want to send them a free gift and send them a freebie. Whatever you decide make sure it is enticing. This one of my favorite tools that I use to grow my email list.

GROUP RULES

Consider your objective when you write your group rules.  You dont want your Facebook group to turn into an infomercial, so you might want one of the rules to be no self-promoting or self-promoting only on designated days. Another rule can be to always be polite and respectful to others in the group.  You want your group rules to represent your brand and you dont want any negativity associated with your brand.

You can also set the post settings so you have to approval all posts. I would recommend this. That way you have more control over what is being posted and also, make sure people aren’t posting anything that doesn’t align with your values.

CONNECTION

A Facebook group is a great way to build a community and connect with potential clients. Because your group targets a specific audience, the conversations are more intentional. You want the group to be of value and benefit all the members. Your audience is looking for a genuine connection. Use your group to share your life, interests, and hobbies with your audience.  Try to create a meaningful relationship that is more friend-like and less business-like.

This is a great tool to start conversations and to learn what your audience needs and wants. You can use your Facebook Group for market research and to promote your offers. I try to stick with the 80/20 rule. Which is give people 80% what they want and 20% what they need. So try to serve and help way more than you try to sell.

GROUPS FOR EVENTS

Creating a group for an event or a course is a great way to answer questions and help the masses.  You can create a group and encourage your customers or clients to join the group for support.  The group can discuss what is working for them or what isnt working for them.  This can also be a hub for encouragement and motivation.

You could also use a similar group for the launch of a longer-length course.  The participants can have ongoing support by sharing questions, struggles and wins with the group. This helps keeps members accountable and engaged.  A Facebook group is a great resource to offer as part of a program or as a bonus.

Facebook Groups are another social media platform, and as with all platforms, consistency is key. The success of your Facebook group is dependent on engagement and interaction.  Your objective is to create value and connection. If you decide to start a Facebook group, ensure you can commit the time and effort required to build a community.
